Pentax K-30 Ricoh pin

My brother in law has a K-30 also - he had a KR mount lens and didn't remove the Ricoh pin and now the lens is stuck? Is there anything I can do to help in removing it?

Here's a thread where someone else had the same problem. I didn't read all the way through it, but it looks like there are some great suggestions in it. All hope is not loss - this is definitely resolvable without sending it off.

well, it at least has some good info on WHAT has happened. jiggling, wiggling, af/mf switch, something really thin like a feeler gauge or something may help. Regardless, it's not permanently stuck - you should be able to get it off without damage so long as you are gentle and keep at it.

Search the forum for 'Ricoh Pin'. Most important thing is to understand you can get it off, just take a deep breath and relax a bit. No need to go all Rambo on it, finesse will work.

I think I remember that the ricoh pin locks the lens after you start to undo it, so it would be locked on there but rattly loose. Maybe you could try slipping a thin feeler gauge between the lens and the camera mount and wriggle it around against the pin, to see if you can worry the pin out.

yeah he tends to Rambo which is why I asked him to bring it here. I will try the feeler guage. I have it disengaged (turns but won't come off) at this point.

Another thing to try is to move the AF/MA switch while gently wiggling the lens to see if the AF will help push the pin out enough to remove the lens

Thanks for the suggestions guys - no luck so far - I can actually feel exactly where the pin is engaged (with a feeler gauge) but I can't get it to pop out. I'll keep trying.

@jolivar: Been there, feeler gauge is the tool that I used. A third hand is quite helpful, one hand on the body and lens lock button, another on the lens creating that small gap between the lens and body, and the third hand would press the pin with the feeler gauge... Maybe you can do the three on your own. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I have a Sigma 24mm Super-Wide II which has the Ricoh pin. Not used it on the K5 yet, but does anyone know if it is easy to remove or likely to cause a problem?

I am not sure but from what I have read. If the pin is rounded like a ball and all of the other contacts, it works OK . If it is flat across the bottom a sharp edge then it gets stuck. The rounded pin can roll in and out of the hole where as the flatbottom can't. If you are still not sure I would remove the pin
Disclaimer: I have read this in several places but I do not have a lens with a Richo pin

I have read the same in several posts ... the "rounded" pin is not troublesome ... good luck, J

Since posting the question I've found several people saying the pin on the sigma super-wide is safe... so I will try it :-)

Thanks for the replies,

F.

I got a KR stuck on my camera too. It was in the AF motor slot - I had to have the least tension on it as possible and flipped the MF/AF back and forth and it came loose.

Let's hope that Ricoh never does anything as silly as the Ricoh pin again.
