blank screen cant d/l update

after d/l update 1.04 to my desktop [should I do more, anything missed] with the/ the icon on desktop.... I hook up the camera to the computer and w/ charged batt and formatted blank card in.... I plugged it in and turned it on,, w/ and w/o pressing the menu button the screen stays black,, after turning it off and un-PLUGGING it, then turn it back on to find screen Ok ..... am I missing something?? I followed the sequence in the pentax site numerous times, should I be doing something w/ the icon on the desktop first/more... would that cause a black/blank screen on the K30 has anyone else experenced this????

The USB cable should not be connected when you're updating. Just copy the .BIN file to the card, then unplug the camera and follow the firmware installation instructions.

how do I copy bin file to card?? I have d/l icon from site on desktop is there another step?

You need to extract it from the zip file after downloading it. Then, just drag and drop it to the top of the SD card.

What OS are you using? Normally you just have to double-click on the zip then drag the file out. If you right-click, there should also be an option to extract the whole zip file. If you still can't get it to work, do a google search for "unzipping a zip file".

yes I did it I dragged and dropped it then did like the ins. said and I got it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you all for all your help!!!! I thought the cord was bad,,
