Finally have a camera on the way!!!!

Finally - I ordered a camera bag a while ago without anything to put in itother than my wife's point and shoot... I just ordered my K30 with the 18-135 .This will be my first camera for me ever...no wait, I had a point and shoot35mm back in the early nineties. I have learned a lot here but I know I havenot even scratched the surface and look forward to advice from here. I plan onoutdoor nature shots and I am looking at the 55-300 when I purchase a zoomlens.

Lot of bang for the buck with that lens.
edit: the only drawback is that it is not WR like the 18-135. But it has very good reach without the dollar penalty.

Congrat for the purchase. You will be happy.

The 55-300mm would overlap broadly with the 18-135mm. By cropping your photographs, you can artificially zoom beyond 135mm with your existing 18-135mm lens. I would suggest that you use the 18-135mm first to ascertain what are your needs.

Food for thoughts..

That's a great weather sealed set up to start with. Should be able to get you some great photographs if you're in the right spot at the right time. It's a lot to learn, but once you get a shot you're proud of, print it large and you'll be hooked on photography for a long time!

Depending on whether you like to do wide landscapes or if you're doing critter shots, that will determine if you need a wider lens (like the 12-24, or 10-20 etc) or if you need something with longer reach like the 55-300. More than likely though, you'll want both and then some more

Have fun with your new tool!
