Image Plane Indicator

I saw this sign on the left shoulder of the K30, but I do not know what it is for . Someone may shed some light for me please.

It's exactly what the title of your thread says it is; although Sensor Plane Indicator would be more accurate.
It's purpose is to allow focusing by measurement, rather than visually when necessary in macro photography.

That's the location of the sensor inside the body -- the image plane. So that's where the image focuses, and if you are setting focus by using a tape measure (for video work, for instance), that's where you'd measure from rather than from the end of the lens, which some people mistakenly do...

Is it in the same position in K-5?
(About next to hot shoe spot.)

The mark is on the opposite edge next to the top LCD on the K-5. The sensor itself is in the same position, more or less. (The sensor is obviously centered in the body -- the plane indicator is just showing the perpendicular position of the sensor to the light path.)
