Fill Flash

Prom night today and photos will be late in the day with some deep shadows with the weather today . Would like to use on camera flash for fill but have not had much luck . What are the best setting for on camera fill with the K-30 other than old school manual settings ? Moving around into different shade and shadows will slow things down and I dont have much time . Any tips ? Thanks

What is your experiences giving you, with your current fill flash settings. Are they too bright? Not bright enough? Too concentrated?

A very quick and dirty approach I've used is to just set the FEC to -1.3 and let the camera and it's built-in flash do the rest.

I get washed out faces or a very slow shutter speed and underexposure with camera shake.

IchbodCrane, what mode do you use. P, or AV?

When I use Av mode (with autoiso) or TAv mode, my ISO is the thing that changes. The only time I get under exposure is if my current TAv settings are too dark for my flash.

I set my flash to -2EV and it has been pretty good so far.

Thanks , will set FEC and take a few test shots in the yard before we go . Beautiful day here but late sun makes it a chore for good Prom shots . Unless the kids wear their sun glasses and face the sun . LOL Moms will not be too happy!

odd about the shake as the flash should freeze the actions. Take some test shots before you really need to shoot, try dec-1 to -3 I think, whatever it takes, or use TaV and don't use flash. If you use the flash use P mode...P for professional mode as Rockwell suggests
