Shake Reduction won't turn on.

The shake reduction says it's off and I cannot access/activate the SR via the control panel or the Rec Mode 3. On both screens the SR line is not illuminated and cannot be accessed.
Am I missing something here or is there a problem with my K-30? Still using firmware v1.02.
Thanks.

Check to see what drive mode you have it on. The SR is inoperative if you have it set to timer or remote control.

Are you set for remote use or timed shots? Both of those disable the SR since it assumes you're using a tripod or other stable mount for the camera eliminating the need for SR to begin with.

SR on K30

Okay. I finally figured it out from the previous K5 discussions on this. Don't know how the drive mode got changed.

Thanks for your responses. This is probably the kind of things that happens when you don't take enough pictures and when you do you use different cameras.

The Shake Reduction function is not available in the following situations:
- Self-timer shooting - Remote Control shooting
- when p mode is set
- when HDR Capture is set, and the Auto Align function is disabled
- during Composition Adjustment

P mode? Are you sure about that?

I think he meant "B" as in Bulb mode. SR is disabled when mode dial is switched to B.

SR is also disabled in M.UP (mirror lockup) but K-30 doesn't have this function.

Steve is right. I am sorry, I copied from the downloaded Manual but I did not check back when pasted in here, I do not know why B became p.

why can't we have timer and shake reduction? I want timer and shake reduction! the timer allows me to negate the shake from pressing the button. I still want SR. it's still in my hand. why are they taking away this choice?

Nope. As timer is usually used on tripod, SR is off.

i have always used the 2 second timer on all my cameras to negate the 'bounce' of hitting the shutter button. press the button, wait two seconds while holding my hand as still as possible and then the picture is taken.
i just bought the k70. i took a picture with SR on, and then one with the 2 second delay. the 2 second delay looks better (both taken with my hand no tripod). I think it would look even better if i had the two second delay AND SR.
SR does not compensate for the button as much as waiting two seconds.
totally bummed out now.
and yes, I did hold the button in 1/2 for several seconds to make sure SR was in fact kicking in.
is there any kind of hack or custom firware i can use the SR and the 2 second delay?
what is the purpose of the 2 second time delay other than to negate the bounce of hitting the button?
why not allow SR with the delay.
you said because delay is usually used with a tripod so SR is not necessay.
agreed.
after having this camera for less than a day SR alone is not enough to overcome the button, at least for my hands.
SR was one of the biggest reasons i bought this camera and it looks like it will be disabled not by me but by the manufacturers.
sorry for the vent, maybe someone important will see it and take pity and help me.
thanks for the ear and your earlier responses.

No, this is a privately owned and operated discussion forum, John, and is not associated with Ricoh. The people whose posts you read are other owners.

Shake Reduction generates vibrations that can under certain circumstances can be amplified by a tripod attached to the camera, that's the real reason it gets disabled.
