AF. Fine Adjustment

I bought my K-30 with the 18-135mm lens

My question is: How do you know if your camera/lens is front/back focusing? Is there a true perfect focus/ sharpness?

Not sure if I would get my question better answered in the k-30 or lens section.

If focusing using Live View or manually gives consistent sharper focus then you have front or back focus going on.

Live View uses a different focusing mechanism and is often more accurate under well lit conditions.

Bare in mind that with zooms, you might only have FF/BF in portion of the zoom range. Typically in either the shortest or longest end.

This article sums it up pretty well:

Thanks Zafar. I just was just reading about focus peaking in live view. I always just assumed it was a lazy way to not use the view finder so I never bothered with it.

Thanks Adam. I will check that out.

Edit: After reading it. I'm by no means saying I even have the issue, was just curious as of what I could do to make sure I didn't have this problem. Might look into making a target or something to test it.

There are multiple methods of checking for proper adjustment of auto focus. Here is my favorite:
