I would like to see specs at least on them.
There are some specs out on the K-50 but none that I have seen yet on the K-500.
Revision - there weren't when I first posted this response

I am duly impressed that Pentax kept the K500 essentially the same as K50, though sans weathersealing being the only difference.

And only available in black.

I wondering as to the need for two new separate forums here for the K-500 and K-50 considering they are essentially the same camera.

Also it seems there is no AF-point confirmation in the VF like the K-x, pretty mean if it's true IMO.

That is still to be confirmed.
IMO I don't think they would bother to take it out. That would mean even more changes to the pattern of assembly for the K-500 vs the K-50 on the production line.

Just changing the camera shell rather than the insides is cheap and easy.

Guess I'm late to the party, but I saw an ad for the K-500 the other day -- can't remember where -- and had no idea what it was. Stealth marketing! Sort of like the 1948 intro of the VW Beetle, we could hope.

Anyway, seems from the above that Pentax is taking the same APS-C DSLR and selling it with several slightly differing feature sets, from the K-5 II-S down to the K-500. Guess someone read Alfred Sloan's "My Life At General Motors.' It works, but you have to make the products at least seem different. Their cars had the same basic body stamping, but the motors were different, at least until what, the '80s? the '90s? and then it all came apart. Hard to sell an Oldsmobile with a Chevrolet V-8.

What's next? Well, I'd sell a K-5000... a K-500 with an 18-55mm lens glued onto it permanently... for $500. At the high end, a new K-5 ... forget the 'II' or 'III' designation ... with a 24MP APS-C sensor. Look, if Sony can cram 20 MP onto the 1" sensor in my little RX100, shouldn't be hard to get 24MP on the APS-C... and no anti-aliasing filter. So -- you'd end up with K-5, K-50, K-500, and K-5000. Five, of course, being the number of points on a pentagon, which relates to a pentaprism, you get the idea.
