The grip looks more like the form factor of the K-5. The K-30's was much to deep and narrow for my tastes.

What is the thing to the right of the shutter button? Looks like a sensor maybe.

I believe the k50 uses the Prime M processor. I wonder if videos are cropped because of digital stabilization just like the K01 and k30.

I don't feel like I've made a mistake as I know I will enjoy the K-30 once I figure out all the settings/menus/buttons etc.

BTW I like your avatar picture, I used to enjoy crawling around in damp holes in the ground in my mid to late teens.
Hey, Tako, been caving and doing cave photography (2D and 3D) for 20 years now. I finally got up the nerve to take my Oly OM-D E-M5 (it's smaller and weather resistant) into caves. Maybe some day I'll do the same with the K-30 (although it's a larger camera). The conditions in caves - including water and dust - can ruin a camera if it is not properly sealed.

I prefer my K-30, which means I also prefer the K-30 design. Why should so many dSLRs be so vanilla looking? Have absolutely no interest in the K-50. Will happily continue to shoot with my K-30.

I to love the design of my K-30....even though I like Vanilla

That really isn't very good.

Why is that bad?

Video is cropped to 2m on all digital cameras because that is the limit of the format (1920x1080=2m).

It has nothing to do with SR.

So let me get this straight, it has identical stats/functions/features as the K30, but in a marginally nicer looking body? For the $780+ these cost, I think I'd prefer a K30 since they're going for around $600 now. I've been eying the K30 for months, waiting for something new, though I really want a K5 replacement with K30-like video, but the ability to take a grip and external mic (not to mention top LCD and 14bit raw). Dunno why they didn't put K30-like video in the K5II.

Okay, I had to respond. In my opinion, the K-50 does not have "a marginally nicer looking body," even though Pentax and some of you might think so. Many of us prefer the K-30 styling. I have no interest in this knock-off of the K-30. Long-live the K-30.

No, you're wrong. K-50 looks way better, because even if K-30 owners think their camera looks better, some of us prefer the K-50 styling. Or do we...? Hmmm, not actually sure... Anyway, sorry, I had to respond...

I have no preference, but if it means I can afford a K-30 just because it's discontinued then yay!
Given the tiny inconsequential differences between the K-30 and K-50 (and not a lot between them and the K-500) I just don't get why they bothered.
It was a missed opportunity to make a more marketable camera by including stuff that can't be added/fixed via firmware like an articulated screen, mic input, bigger battery, wifi etc; so I don't get why they'd bother with all the requisite retooling and not do those things.

A marketing strategy. Hope it's going to work.

Me too, for Ricoh/Pentax's sake.
What I meant was that since the release of the K-30 there have been a lot of requests for things like an articulated screen, mic inputs, better video etc, so including those things that already exist in the parts bin in the K-50 would have been clever marketing.
