I like the look of the K-30 but Pentax made some improvements here, like the grip material pattern matches all around the body and the wide variety of colors are offered at day one. I hope the K-50 is allowed to live long enough to get a foothold since that was the obvious plan in smoothing out the design from the K-30.

I prefer my K-30, which means I also prefer the K-30 design. Why should so many dSLRs be so vanilla looking? Have absolutely no interest in the K-50. Will happily continue to shoot with my K-30.

You shouldn't feel like you made some sort of mistake. I much prefer the K-30 design. The K-50 is really not offering much of anything over the K-30. Enjoy your new K-30. I am.

I don't feel like I've made a mistake as I know I will enjoy the K-30 once I figure out all the settings/menus/buttons etc.

BTW I like your avatar picture, I used to enjoy crawling around in damp holes in the ground in my mid to late teens.

I agree. That was the one thing they really could have corrected from the K-30. It wouldn't (or shouldn't at least) have been that difficult.

Also, the grip looks more comfortable here vs on the K-30 which is a bit narrow and boxy. This looks closer to the K-x in being more rounded and thicker... easier for adult hands. :c )

Yeah, I have just 5 days with my K-30, and I don't feel down, it cost me 488 dlls, (body only on amazon) and I like the design more than the K-50.

I have stopped using the built-in stereo mics (and the external mic input) on my K-01 since I bought a Zoom H1, other than for registration (sync).
There is really no comparison in sound quality and I can monitor visually via level meters and with headphones exactly what I am recording.
It is no heavier or more expensive than an external mic and I see the lack of stereo mics or input as absolutely no problem on any camera.

As a replacement for the K-30 it's meh, but K-50/500 as replacement for the K-r is exceptional.
It is an opportunity missed to make some basic corrections, like focus peaking on video, but I am still finding it very difficult to keep my K-r.
I hope they do release a K-500 body only, as I already have too many plastic kit lenses (one still wrapped) and that would be the easiest upgrade to justify.
