Why not just use the focus peaking feature? I thought the K30 had this?
Not suitable to moving subjects.

In using the available electronic focus aids for the K-30, all lenses lacking autofocus (including the A-series) are restricted to the center focus point when using the OVF. When using LV, focus peaking covers the entire frame.

When I am using older lenses, in general I tend to ignore the electronic focus aids and concentrate on using just the focusing screen with the lens wide open, then stop down for better depth of field. Focus peaking is my backup. But then my fastest lens is a 1.7. If my brother-in-law gives me his 1.2 lens, I might be looking to replace my focusing screen with the Canon S type from focusingscreen.com.
