It's basically a K-30 in a different body:

You mean the grip feels exactly the same as the K-30?

In the images it looks more rounded (the grip itself) on the K-50 vs the really tight, narrow one on the K-30.

Hi, new to the forum! I'll have mine in my hands tomorrow! I got the basic kit lens, and also ordered a 35mm prime to go with the body as well. My first digital slr after being out of the photo game for about 7 years!

I received my K-50 black body this week.
A DA40 limited is mounted to make a handy outdoor camera and travel companion.

First impressions.
It has a no-nonsense straightforward design, I think minimalists can live with it.
The top panel has a little bit too much curves to my taste, but that's personal.
The finish is very good (black is really matte).
All the panels are tightly fit, with very narrow gaps.
The Battery compartment door works very smooth, good construction.
The rubber door for external power supply is a bit too tight, quite some pressure is needed to make it fit.

Comparing it to the K5-II (my other camera):
The shutter is a bit louder, but not extremely loud.
Body is plastic, so the switches are sounding a bit less solid (mode dial, e-dials).
Notably the back panel sounds less solid.
The grip has about the same quality and texture as the K5-II (rubbery).
I think the LCD panel cover is from polycarbonate, not glass (not 100% sure).
It is not extremely light (840 gr, + DA40 limited, AA batteries).
Viewfinder same as K5-II.
No ISO button (use button on selector).

Overall a nicely built camera, I'm content with it.

Mine was delivered today. Image quality seems nearly identical to the K-30. However, I think the autofocus in low light is faster on the K-50 vs. the K-30. I also think the LCD is a little better than the K-30's despite having the same resolution. I really like the new DA-L WR lenses...lightweight but still with decent build quality. The overall body design to me resembles the K-r. A very solid sub-$1,000 DSLR overall.

Since you've handled a K-30 before, does the grip feel any different on the K-50? More, Less, or the same comfort?

The grip on the K-30 is slightly better, IMO. The K-50 is still comfortable, especially since the grip is thicker but the grip is a little deeper on the on the K-30 and that feels a little better in my hands. But they are both better than competing Canon and Nikon models.

I am happy with my new K-50 with 18-55WR and 50-200WR. K-50 is awesome cool. That 2 lenses are wonderful. They can go fast than old lenses. They look alike same DA L 35mm f2.4. They are only 49mm filter size. They are best than old lenses. K-50 are wonderful LV so fast AutoZoom. Pictires are perfect than my old K-7. I love my K-50 and new 2 lenses. Smile

May I add the following observations.

The K-50/K500 in real life looks much better than on most photo's, notably the black version, because it is difficult to reproduce the matte texture. Photo's are usually too light making the camera look gray instead of black. The lighting is also often not diffuse enough and it unjustly makes the camera look plasticky, with shiny accents. The photo's on the official Pentax websites are quite accurate and close to what you can expect.

The style of the body comes very close to the Km (= K2000 for US), Kr, and notably the Kx (with the raised right side and the sloping shoulders). So, my advise to Km, Kr and Kx owners is to take a good look at the K-50. I think you will never get a better chance for an upgrade than with the K-50.

Held a K-50 today. Compared to the K-30 (which I own in black)... they are both nice cameras. They look a little different from each other but, for the most part, it's just in the flash/pentaprism housing. Texture of each is nominally the same.

As a former K-r user (never shooted with a K-5 class camera) got impressed at the first shot. The power of my 21,40,70 LTds have been finaly unleashed ,specialy talking about dynamic range performance. Better ISO granularity (steps at 30 or 50 ISO) delivering overall better shoots. The new "blue sky" program realy makes the sky bluer without the necessity to have a a polarizer attached to the lenses. Also the "forest program" work well with low/high shadow situations.
"One click only" autofocus, no misses. Pleased also with the new "vivid color digital filter" . I'm overall satisfied. thanks

Color variants

I want to order a special color combo, but am not interested in waiting 4-6 weeks. Has anyone ordered their camera in a color combo? And how long did it take to get to you? Much appreciated.
