K-30 used or new?

HI,
i just got my K-30 from Hunts.
I took some pictures here and there.

I took some, deleted some.. maybe 10-20 total.
When i put the memory card in my computer, i see that the first image name is IMGP0160

I just wonder you specialists, does this mean that this camera was used before and I started using it after 160 shots?

More than just the fact of "being used" I am more worried about this being a customer return? open box, display item? etc...

How do i know the actual shutter count of the camera?

THanks!!!

You can check shutter count right here on Pentax Forums home page.

Oh oh...
Shutter Count 214

i guess there is a problem here. I might have taken 20 or so pictures but definitely not 200+!!!!

is this normal? maybe part of QC? or should I think about returning/exchanging?

Thanks a lot

Perhaps it was an in store demo unit. The store runs low on stock and ends up selling the demonstrator.

yikes.... will confirm what is the history of this product with Hunts Photo.

Meanwhile, any idea if quality control might test the camera for 150-200 shots?

Thanks,

This thread asks the same question, and provides a way to check the shutter count.

A search reveals that most cameras before the K-5 came new with a few shutter counts as possibly a quality control check, but starting with the K-5 should have a shutter count of 0. Don't know if this would apply to the K-30 (a later model) as well.

If it's in perfect condition, with no scratches, then the camera should be fine. Remember to buy the Pentax Extended warranty for $20. You could ask the retailer for a small price reduction to make up for the "used" nature of the camera, but I wouldn't hassle with sending it back.

I agree, if it's in new condition and works right I wouldn't worry about it. I seem to remember reading a while back that usually the out of the box shutter count might be as low as 3 or 4 and may be over 100, how many shots were taken by QC was all over the place.. It seems to vary. Mine was 4.

I have opened another post to know what to check in the camara to make sure everything is oK (as of now, i only know to put the camera in "auto" mode and shoot! :P)

I did buy the $20 warranty off Adorama which is on the way. I think that is the cheapest extended warranty I have ever bought.

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

My K-30 started naming files correctly at the beginning but my shutter count was off by +6. The camera is now in the 2000+ range and keeps on snapping!
