HSS with Aftermarket Flash on K-30

I am looking at getting an aftermarket flash to use with a K-30.

What brands, Metz, Sigma, Bolt, have you used with sucess on a K-30? Which model(s) are compatible with the K-30?

The reason I ask is that when I upgraded from a K-100 to a K-x three years ago, my Sigma EF-500DG Super would not do HSS on the K-x.

Thanks for your input!

Yet another lovely test shot of my office coffee pot!

Camera:
K-30, DA 18-135 at 60mm. manual exposure ISO 400, 1/500 at f/6.7.

Flash:
Sigma EF-610 DG Super, mounted on camera in TTL (P-TTL) and FP (HSS) mode

I guess the pair is compatible with HSS - while the flash manual gave step by step instructions, this is my first HSS shot so I wanted to test it before saying "yes it does".

I have a Metz 58-AF2. Until recently HSS did not work with K-30 but this has now been fixed by a firmware upgrade from Metz.

I can get my Sigma EF-610 DG Super to fire with fast K-30 shutter speeds in FP (HSS) mode, but it's hopeless at getting the exposure right, unlike in normal P-TTL mode.

When I upgraded to the K-r, I sent my EF-500DG Super to Sigma and they did a "Courtesy Update" for free. I don't know if they can do that with a K-30 but you can call them toll free from the support page and they will let you know.

WIth a Metz flash it is pretty much the same way as you update the camera firmware. You download the update from their web site, connect the flash to the PC with a standard USB cable and run the update program.

One of the reasons I chose Metz was precisely the ability to update software. I was quite aware that the flash could easily become incompatible with newer cameras, or even camera firmware updates.
