K30 getting stuck in preview

Any one had this fault? My k30 randomly with sometimes after 10-20 shots and some times after another 50-100 shots will get stuck when I press the shutter button.

if I look through the view finder in look like I have used the stop down preview mode to view DOF and sometimes going into live view clear it and sometimes I have to remove the battery.

once it cleared it works fine again for a while , it's not the lens as it does it with any lens, I have now found as I thought at first I had a sticky iris.

its under warranty still but I just wondered if it is a known fault?

I've had my k-30 for about a year and never had that happen, or even heard of it happen to anyone else. It has done something funny on the odd occasion but very rarely and never anything like what you describe. To me sounds like some fault in the mirror mechanism but then again if so not sure why removing the battery and replacing it should fix it.

It might be just some gunk got into the mechanism. I would have a good look around the mirror area and the iris actuator for any obvious dbris and also try cleaning perhaps with a rocket blower and some shaking before deciding to send it off for repair.

Does it ever do it with a Pentax lens on? I've heard a few tales of some Sigma lenses causing lockup issues although I've seen none with my 17-70 2.8-4.5.

Is it in AF-C with high-speed shooting?

afs in any mode,

I have now found that if you assign viewfinder preview to the fx button when you press to activate the viewfinder optical dof preview that what you see is the same as the mode the camera is going into and getting stuck in.

so randomly as you press the shutter button it goes into optical preview and sticks there and the shutter button does not respond. the only way to fix it is to remove the lens and then press the shutter button , and a image albeit useless is taken and with lens refitted it all works again till next time.

Monday it goes in under warranty but I need it as a back up for two weddings this weekend.

This problem sounds very similar to what I am experiencing (latest firmware v1.04) and it seems to be getting more frequent ie every day I use the camera

It can happen with any lens (I only have 3; 18-135WR, DA55-300 and DALtd40) but the problem seems worse with my DA55-300. It can work fine for several shots but then when I close the shutter it will get stuck for at least 10 seconds with a blank display and if I look in the VF the focus lock indicator is lit but the AF mechanism is active still because you can hear it quite obviously trying to focus the DA55-300. It's as if the camera has decided to go into a AF-C cycle even though I have released my finger and I am not using AF-C. I thought it was maybe battery related after reading other threads about voltage problems so I ordered an AA battery adapter for use with some Sanyo Eneloops but that hasn't made any difference. I also thought it might be SDcard related but trying different SDcards hasn't made any difference either. When it comes out of the 'stuck' state after 10+ seconds it has actually recorded the original image successfully.

I still have 3 months of warranty so I will probably send it in to Pentax for repair very soon because it's frustrating to use at the moment. I'm not sure what else to try before I do send it for repair.

Posted mine back to the selling dealer today.

it will be at least two weeks despite pointing out I use it [along with other bodies ] to earn a living and need back before the next big wedding on the 30 of this month, but I will be amazed if that makes any difference to to the Pentax repair sub contractors in the UK.

As suspected it has taken 4 weeks for a warranty repair , they don't care if you use it for a living, no wonder so many use Nikon they have a 1 week pro turn round I am told in the UK.
Any way I'm told it is is finally fixed the fault is a main board fault and has happened on k5 bodies but not on a K 30 before. Don't know why only on k5 as ithas the same guts as a k5 apparently. Maybe it's a old fault and my k30 was a ex demo model so might have had a board from a old faulty batch, who know? Any way I apparently get it back next week.
