My vote is for a K01. Same quality and reasonable price to acquire.

I would look at Ricoh GR as a backup camera.

Cheers!

Backup Camera for K-30

thanks a lot for quick response. well. K-01 is on my list, but the RIcoh GR. needed further research about it. :-)

I would say K-01 because it has a better sensor. And despite it not having an EVF.

The best would be another K-30, of course

As I parrot over and over, don't get a "back-up", shoot with dual cameras!
So another K-30 is my recommendation!

I kept my K-x as backup when I upgraded, but as I don't use it that often anymore, it takes a few seconds before remembering some of the menu settings, and if you need to act fast...., so I agree with LaurenOE, get another K-30, you should be able to get one at a good price, new or used....

In the UK you can actually get a K-5 body for not much more than a K-01 body. May be worth looking into.

Why not get another K30? So you will not have 2 different chargers but one single type and batteries can be shared.

I would say K-01 (because its smaller and still takes K mount lenses, and its IQ should be pretty similar, maybe a little sharper than the K-30). Or the Q, if you want something even smaller (its Q mount, but you can get a K mount adapter).

But why do you need a backup camera anyway? I have two digital cameras (and a P&S and phones, but that doesnt really count) because I got one on a sale and because each has its strengths.

Yep, I also want a second K-30 as a back up camera.
Even thou I really like the K-01 (my dad got one) and my wife got the Q-10. 2 me it makes much more sense to have the exact same camera as your back up. No worries about diff batteries, layout, settings etc. And I look forward to be able to go on a photo walk with two cameras... less switching back and forth between lenses. ( I know, I am lazy sometimes, or don't have time to change lens)

My 2 cents

I got an *ist DL from a fellow forum member to be a backup and a historical piece. It's a bit slow compared to my K-30 and it loses in the megapixel race but the IQ is pretty good, it takes all my lenses, and it is much cheaper than my K-30. Plus, it's fun to use and compare against a modern camera.

I use a K-01 as a backup to my K5, so I'd vote K-01.
