Apparently there's a new firmware version out (for the K-30 at east)... V1.05

Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

...installed a few minutes ago with no problems noted...

Back to the original post - according to the US Ricoh/Pentax website (Downloads & Literature - RICOH Imaging the latest version is 1.04 - I just checked again and it's still 1.04.

I sent a msg to US Support and the response was that "RICOH Japan hasn't provided the US with the latest version of the K30 firmware yet."

Sounds like a major disconnect between Japan and the US.

Anyone know what's going on??

here is a link to the downloadable 1.05 firmware. I haven't upgraded yet but it does download to the computer. Look at the bottom of the page for the download link.

Thanks for the response - I went ahead and downloaded from the Japan site - installed yesterday with no problems. Haven't done enough shooting to tell any differences.

I can download the EXE file, but I cannot run it to extract the actual firmware file!!

Does anyone have the ACTUAL unzipped firmware file available??

aren't you suppose to load the .bin file on to your sd card & extract it from there?

I haven't upgraded mine manually but it looks like it might have been updated wirelessly since I have the remote set to wireless?

Yep, the process is to extract the .bin file, by running the .exe file, then placing the .bin file on the card, put the card in the camera, and bang, the update happens!

However, I cannot run the exe file to extract the .bin file, so I cannot put that file on the card, and cannot update the firmware!
Does anyone have the actual .bin file I can download, instead of the stupid EXE file that is basically a zip file, i know this stuff, just cannot RUN the darn thing.

Ain't it great to be a member of such a helpful community. It is stupid that they dont just release their fir wares as zip files or at least use an executable package that can be extracted with 7zip.

Yep, and yep.
Manufacturers for some reason just have no interest in supporting the open source community.
Sad.

The file labeled "Mac and Windows" is just a zipped .bin file (not an executable). Can't you just download that one and unzip it on your Linux machine?

They aren't "stupid". They do release them as zip files:

Hmm, I did not see that link. Yes that link would have worked fine, I can download the zip, extract and and copy to the card.
The link that I did see, posted on this thread, several times was for an EXE file. That was the only link I saw, and that is why I asked for a .BIN file.

Thanks for the zip link!! that assures that my download is from the manufacturer, and not some malware hack!!
