a while back i read that there were some headaches when trying to update to FW 1.03 i think or 1.02.
I wonder if this FW works well... tempted to update, i guess i will wait a day or so to see reactions of forum members.

besides the LED for AF and the HD lens support (which we can't see yet) have you guys noticed any other improvement in the K-30 with this new FW?

My K-30 is currently in for repair (under warranty thankfully) due to some occasional locking up behaviour after taking a photo, it would be interesting to know if any of this strange behaviour can be attributed to and maybe fixed with the 'stability' improvements that v1.05 includes. I suppose if it gets returned to me with 1.04 still loaded but working perfectly then it isn't related to any of these improvements.

I'm usually straight in with the latest firmware updates, but I'm hesitating because of the update for the new Pentax flashes. Is there any chance the update may mess with 3rd party P-TTL flash compatibility?

I suppose it could. Which flash do you have? Does anyone know whether or not the FW can be taken back to the previous version? Certainly a good idea to hold on to your older versions if you need to revert.

Sigma EF-610 DG Super, but I was also asking on behalf of Metz owners. I'll give it a few days to see if anyone moans about their flash not working before I install 1.05.

EDIT 1:-
Couldn't wait. (I had some time on my hands). Updated with no problems then tried out my Sigma flash and that was the same as before. Autofocus was also the same as far as I could tell indoors in overcast weather with blinds 3/4 down.

EDIT 2:-
I rarely use the movie mode and then I prefer MF but the movie AF seems to be more positive than I remember but I haven't used it for months so could easily be wrong.

Not sure what you think the firmware update has to do with the SilkyPix Studio RAW developer?

Anyway, the direct link to the K-30 firmware is
Latest K-30 Firmware Update : Software Downloads | RICOH IMAGING

Websites don't close for weekends.

OT: If you want to used something fast for viewing and tweaking/cropping/etc your RAW files, (or JPG) try Faststone Image Viewer. It's free and fast.

1.05 is a good improvement for the K-30. Low-light AF is noticeably improved IMO.

Rite ..

I put the new 1:05 to 1:04 position, first impressions are: no visible change, my subjective impression is even faster without hesitation accurate autofocusing, and tried the lens mechanical AF and with SDM autofocus, in not ideal conditions, in dark room lit with faint neon lights, with this model, Pentax has made a huge leap in improving af possibilities and it seems to me that so and continues to very successfully, is now expected something fantastic with the heir to attract new users / and retain old /, K50 not counts as the successor than just redesigned the same!!
