With DFS on you can go for however long you'd like pretty much. Even with it off, I've taken exposures lasting many minutes w/o issues.

Dark Frame Substraction (or something along those lines) - the camera takes another shot with the shutter closed, so as to detect noise and remove it in the final image.

No idea, but there is a setting somewhere in the menu about it.
Edit: The settings are Auto, On or Off. But you'll have to test what it does yourself since it's pretty bright over here.

Menu group 3, second line - Slow shutter speed NR

It seems to work even on B but I don't know if there is any time limit on the dark frame. I manually shot a 15 second exposure in B and it shot the dark frame lasting about the same time. May or may not work for more than 30 seconds.

The reason why I as about this is that I want to try light painting and would not want to get noisy images if use prolonged exposure.

Ive done 600seconds exposures with DFS on and it works really well. Ive noticed its better to use ISO400 or 800 instead of ISO100 as long exposure noise gets higher than high iso noise.
As for light painting, I dont think youll need B mode. 15 or 20 sec exposure works ok
