Hi all,

New pentax person here. I have been enjoying the k30 bought earlier in may. However I seem to be having an issue now. I'm not sure why but last weekend i noticed there was a line across the top of my photos, as If that part is being way more overexposed than others.

It rained a few weeks ago and I had the camera in my knapsack, at the bottom of the bag. But the bottom was definitely wet, and the camera was lying lense up, lcd screen down, I know the k30 is weatherproof but that's the only thing I can think of, I had my 50mm on.

Here are two pics inside, and one from my photo shoot with a friend. As you can see, its not super noticeable as long as there is plenty of light. For the time being I will just have to crop it out or play with exposure setting in lightroom

Any ideas guys? Does anyone know what possible could have happend? And how does one rectify this?

Does this happen with all lenses, or just the 50mm?

Both the 50mm and the 18-55 kit lens

it kinda looks like shutter lag.
Does it do it in full auto also?
Make sure your are not at firmware 1.03 (on thier website Ricoh has admitted that 1.03 caused some instability) try 1.05, if you haven't already. see if that helps.
Also, Try a factory settings reset.
If that doesn't help
I hate to say this.... but if its still under warranty . Send it in with samples.

Wait wait. Are you sure this isnt happening due to artificial light and fast shutter speed? You see, the camera can be faster than the light bulb's frequency, and cause dark lines. We had threads about that issue before, where people thought their camera was broken, but it was performing exactly as normal. Key factors are shutter speed and the type of light bulb used.
So.. remove the battery, charge it up, leave it outside the camera for a couple hours, update the firmware, and then try the camera in daylight.
Also, make sure the camera is dry - don't want any water splashing in there! I think you can find advice on how to dry a camera off after something like that. Better safe than sorry and all.

I've noticed there is no issue in video mode, no overexposed lines?

I am charging the battery, and will update to new firmware and get back to you guys.

Ah I see why, the sensor records in movie ratio, so you can't see the top part during movie mode. Dang.

Shoot the blank sky at various shutter speeds both above and below the flash sync speed. If it is shutter, there should be some variability in the light band with shutter speed. I would be really surprised if this were a shutter issue. The tapering towards the edges is the first clue.

Moisture condensed on the sensor? You should visually inspect the mirror box for moisture as well as the sensor itself (open shutter in B mode with lens off).

I will go outside in a bit and take some pics of the sky. I set it on bulb and looked at the sensor, have a look, this might be the culprit? Is that line at the top, maybe it was always there it seems to be some sort of chemical adhesif maybe line placed there at the top of the sensor, but for whatever reason it is now allowing light to shine through where it didn't before?

i think its best to send it in. i could be just seeing an optical illusion, but there seems to be a line across the top of the sensor. In addition, my sensor reflects in an amber color which im not seeing in your photo. odd

Its under wanrranty, I'm in Canda, I can send it to pentax then? Or is it better to just go to a camera shop? (sorry for the newbie questions)
