I believe you can set the exposure with the green button in live mode, seems to work for me with a Helios 44-m with the a-m switch set to m.

It seems also be happily setting shutter speeds in normal view in av mode with an occasional press of the green button when no speed is displayed.

The problem is that lenses without the a-m switch won't work since the camera won't stop it down. Some people may get the idea that all m42 lenses won't work.
