Thanks for the responses... tried everything and resorted to the foil method. For now, this is the only solution. It works. Kinda hassle but it works.

I wrote to Pentax, they indicated they tested it out and it was all of them.
Maybe we should get a petition going to ask Ricoh to "fix" this in a future firmware update?

Just to be sure it's been stated...

The Green Button metering method works perfectly in LiveView with a K-30 in Manual Mode.

I'm on FW rev 1.04 I think.

Um? Go to the forum where you want to post a thread (For example, "Pentax News and Rumors" or "Pentax K-30 & K-50") There is a big black button with white text on the left side of the screen that says "New Thread"
Note that you might not have access to post new threads in certain forums

Hello, i can confirm the problem its related to the electric contacts, i just received my k-30 and was a little dissapointed as the problem described was identical to my camera's behaviour.
But as i tried my Voigtlander Color Ultron 50mm 1.8 and voila! the green button metering was working as intended (the lens has metallic, conductive back).
Are you now able to meter with green button in manual mode in both LV and viewfinder? or only through LV? Also congrats on the color ultron!

I just got my first M42 and have experienced the exact same issue as the op. I was worried something was wrong w/ the green button, since I'm used to using it on my other non-A lenses.
I'm ending up liking Av mode. I use the histogram in LiveView to adjust my exposure, and then I'm set to use the viewfinder. Seems to work great...

My K-30 has no problem working with a Helios within the known quirks of the camera. I add some exposure compensation like with every other manual lens.

Please don't junk your Helios!
