bulb mode issue on k30?

I have 2 k30 and tested them in bulb mode, after 30 seconds, it just leave a black screen and doesnt seem to render an image. The shutter or mirror seems to lock up or hang. I needed to remove and return the battery so i can get the camera working again. Anyone experienced this issue?

It is called a dark frame. Your camera is creating a baseline to subtract noised with. If you dont have the time, or dont like to use in camera noise reduction turn it from "auto" which i believe is the default to off. You'll have to check the manual to find the location - I dont have a K30.

Pretty sure that is the dark frame noise reduction. I think in the menu its called the slow shutter NR or long exposure NR. Something like that. If you want it to never appear, set it to OFF. But if you have the time (and battery life), its a nice little feature.
It should only trigger with relatively long exposures, though Im not sure where it starts.
the dark frame is appx. as long as the shot you took btw

I have all noise reduction turned off, but I have never done any astrophotography. I understand it is absolutely necessary for astrophotography where a hot pixel wouldn't look all that different from a star.

So you mean its normal for me to wait for 2-3 minutes or more for my camera to render an image? Or how long does it take usually in bulb mode to render an image?

On K-5 there's a timer that counts down on the top-LCD, that K-30 lacks. I think it takes a darkframe of about the same length as the actual photo, but I'm not sure. In short it takes a photo with the shutter closed so that it can subtract the noise profile for long exposure of the sensor. You can shut it of in the meny but it's good for minimizing noise and hot pixels.

The dark frame is the same time as the original photo. If you take a 1 minute exposure, the dark frame will add another minute.

Things that can make the shutter process slow:
-timer. 2 sec or 12 sec. Sometimes people forget they turned this on and then get confused when the camera takes time before it shoots.
-Dark frame NR - basically doubles the exposure length with "long exposures" (also called called slow shutter NR)
-jpeg settings - settings like lens CA correction, lens distortion correction can make the camera much slower to process the shot. Also, digital filters and such
-settings like bracketing or HDR can appear to slow down the camera, but its just multiple frames being taken.
-slow SD card - a very slow SD card can be a bottleneck and slow down the write process. I suggest you get SD cards from reputable brands and they should be at least class 6, preferably class 10.
