upper slide it is ONLY mechanical calculator for NON automatic bodies, K1000 or MEsuper for example. or for non "A" lens, M40/2.8 for example.
Upper slider DOES NOT affect exposure at ANY kind.
If You use K-50 and A lens or FA lens or DA lens:
1- set camera at Tv mode (!)
2- set RED or GREEN mode on the flash. change between them if needed
3- set lens aperture dial at "A"
try to change ISO and see, as aperture changing.
IMPORTANT ! - if from some reason FIRST TIME ONLY it will not work, press the shuter button, remove the flash and so on, clean th contacts at hot shoe - but after that it will work always and AUTOMATIC/
please note - tecnically camera is at Tv mode, but practically if You change the ISO - You change the F stops too. You will be able to set shutter slower, than 1/180, but faster will not.
so - it is ISO-Av mode... just try.
see my video before.
BUT - if You use legacy lenses:
1- set ISO at the camera and flash the same (Yeah, upper diale does not affect the exposure, but You need to read it right)
2- read F number form calculator depend of GREEN or RED mode You are using.
3- set this F number at the lens.
for Pentax DSLR usually need to open aperture for 1 stop, so, if calculator shows to You at RED mode/ISO 100 need F number F/4 - so set the 2.8 and be happy. (as You are DID) It will be 1 stop more light. If It too much - close aperture to 3.5 or back to the f/4
note Pentax DNG more better pull to the light, then push to the dark.
(I hope my English is understandable)
