Help picking lenses

Im wondering what is normally recommend to get when your first starting out, I have a K-30 and the WR version of the kit lens. Im more then likely going to purchase a Pentax M 50mm f/1.7 and Im wondering what I else I should get, Im trying to decide on getting a shorter Pentax DA 35mm f/2.4 or a Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens. Im open to suggestions on lens choice though.

Rather broad question.

Zooms vs primes? Budget? Subjects?

Im wondering if its better to start out with primes or get a couple and a longer zoom lens, my budget is around 200 dollars, and these will be general use lenses, I like experimenting and shooting different things.

For your budget, you will get the best value for money with primes.

I think your long term strategy should be a collection of a primes, the kit lens and the DA18-135mm walk-around lens. The latter is WR and matches well the K-30.

In the short term, consider good primes about 30 mm, 50 mm and 70-80 mm for a start. There are several older MF primes that you can get relatively cheap. Some well-know focal lengths of oldies are : 28mm f2, M50 f1.7, M85mm f2 among other.

Later, if your budget permit, you could consider the DA Limited and FA Limited series which are outstanding.

Hope that the comment may help.

I recommend the 18-135 too. It's weather sealed, fast AF and a very good walk around lens. I use it for almost anything except for UWA shots. Planning to purchase a flash to pair with it.
