New K-50

I just bought a new K-50 and I mainly will use m42 lenses on it.

I saw on ebay a Kiron lens listed as P/K mount. Will this work on my new K-30.
If so, can I shoot in apature mode and will it meter so I can stop down with it.

That's actually a harder question than it seems! Which lens is it?
Some of them might get stuck on the K-30 (KR mount). Some newer lenses will have the A mode others won't.

Gavin,

Congrats on your new camera. Regarding the Kirin, I would avoid it. The DA 50/1.8 is a great and affordable lens.

Do you know about user reviews? this lens scored pretty well. Another, similar one, worth consideration is the 28-90 Vivitar Series 1.

Yes that is where I saw the review, and I didn't see the Vivitar.28-90. Didn't Kiron and Komine make that one for Vivitar.
I don't know if it is any better than the 28-85 it might be. I am new to Pentax and I hope that PK mount will work OK on my K-50
in AV mode ie can shoot at all f stops and not only at wide open. I will take a look at the Vivitar and thanks for the heads up.

There is no "A" setting on it, you will need to use stop down metering via green button. Not that it is difficult to do.

On my m42 lenses I use av mode, focus and stop down. Would I use the same process with this lens?
I am new to all of this so please bear with me and I really do appreciate the help.
