Get k-50 or wait for k-60?

Hi.
I posted as a visitor previously and have now signed up.
I was pretty set on the k-50. A relative is visiting next month and will be able to bring it to me. He also is able to get some discounts on gear so it's a good opportunity.
Now the rumored k-60 has thrown me for a loop.
The addition of built in Wi-fi seems to be a big plus (my wife has forbidden me from buying a camera without it and I kind of fobbed her off by suggesting the k-50 can work with eyefi cards - in reality I think built in direct wifi is a better solution)
If they use a 24mp sensor also seems to be a big plus.
So the question is do I buy now or wait a bit?
This will be my first ILC camera. Used p&s film until 2003 or so ( a Ricoh - excellent camera a real workhorse!) and then various digital. Currently a Nikon s9200 super zoom.

Hi! The K-60 is not a very reliable rumor, but why not wait a few days to see whether the rumors are true? It's only 9 days until CP+ starts.

That's what intend to do. I will see what (if any) announcements are made around the show and then see if Presidents Day brings any good sales and then decide.

If they do announce a new camera at the show how long does it usually take for these new cameras to start being sold?

I guess that varies. I looked up the K-01 announcement two years ago on CP+, and it was announced on February 2nd with availability from March 15th.

I have a same issue. I'd like to buy a K-50 but I heard rumors about the new K-60 and it got on to my mind. Will be great camera if the rumors turns out to be right, but only thing that worries me is that they say that it wll have a lightweight body and I'm scared about it to be plastic (which I find out to be crapy on the entry lvl. Nikons and Canons) . What do you think about it?

AFAIK they're not going to release a K-60 this early. And even if they do, it will probably cost close to the K-50's MSRP ($779 w/ lens), whereas you can get a K-50 for much less than that right now.

I say get your hands on something reasonable now and spend the time shooting pictures vs. worrying about product cycle upgrades. My K-30 has over 11k clicks on it and I never once thought to myself, "Oh, if only I had a K-5 iis" as I lay on the ground trying to capture a macro shot of a moth or something. I guess now I would be saying K-3.

Yes, prices will always drop on older models as new ones get released. I always consider the price drop as an early entry fee to get into the camera sooner and start taking picture sooner. The more you get out and shoot and learn the better value any camera will be.

If this is your first ILC, don't bother with K-60 rumors. Get the K-50 (or a K-30 which is identical to the K-50 for all practical purposes).

Also, 24MP is not necessarily always better. In high ISO, you might be better off with 16MP.

Another advice, don't spend too much money on the body, spend it on lenses. In most likelihood you will change the body in a couple of years, but you will keep the lenses for a loooong time. Two lenses that are excellent if you are a beginner are the 18-135 (walk around lens that will make you appreciate being able to take pictures with your K-30/50 in the rain), and any fast 50mm (new DA 50 or old M 50 on eBay depending on your budget). For your first ILC you wanna have at least one fast portrait lens.

I get my K30 just a couple of months before the K50 launch. I dont regret. Its pretty the same. Thats why the levels are for, no matter if they launch K60 or K70, you need to practice with a KX0 before get a K3, or K1s FF (OMG!!! lol).

It its different the case with my boss (I work at a photo studio), he had an offer for his Hassel H1D, and he wants the 645D, but he will wait until the newone comes out. The bigger the camera, bigger the time between relaunch. In K50 level, its all almost the same (when I say same, I say GOOD).

One last thing, Wi-Fi is overrated and not exactly as usable as they advertise it to be. It's a nice to have gimmick, but a gimmick nevertheless. IMHO your equipment choice should concentrate more on what produces good photography results, so beyond good lenses, your next priority should be a good external flash with tilt/swivel head, a sturdy tripod, a monitor with decent colors, and possibly a good post-processing software. Wi-Fi is the absolute last item on my list.

What do you mean by 'fast'?

Right now I'm considering the two lens kit - both WR. 18-55 and 50-200.
I might splurge and buy the 18-135 WR instead of those two but its an extra $250 or so on top of the two kit lenses packsge and I think that money can be better used elsewhere as the two kit lens package seems to really discount the lenses.

What do you mean by monitor with good colors?

Thanks for the tip re:wifi. I kind of suspect that is the case and that a decent card reader/USB stick or some other solution to connect to a smartphone or tablet is simple and practical to use.
