Updated my K-30 to 1.06 today. No issues. Tell me I'm dreaming but my Sigma 17-50/2.8 HSM doesn't seem to have a front focus shift in dim yellow light like it did before. I wish backward firmware updates were possible so one could check these sort of things.

They are possible if you still have them saved to your computer. With my K30 and a windows computer I have gone from 1.04 to 1.05, back to 1.04, then back to 1.05 to see if anything would fix my pop up flash. Nothing did though so it was probably a hardware issue.

Updated the firmware from 1.00 to 1.06 right out of the box. No issues with the camera so far. Loving the upgrade!

Did not yet install latest update, but I've never had any issues with any firmware version...

Just got myself a K-50
Currently it's on v 1.00 and operating well. I won't upgrade unless I come across a need to.

Seems there are more K-30 owners than K-50 owners on the forums.

Why not upgrade, the firmware upgrades include system updates like better autofocus, more SD card compatibilitys and sometimes faster operation in addition to the stated reasons for the release. I have never let a FW update go without updating my cameras, never had a problem.

Changes to V1.02

• Correspond to HD PENTAX-DA AF REAR CONVERTER 1.4X AW. (Don't own, will never own)
• Improved stability for general performance.
*Contents of [Version 1.01] will be also updated.

Changes to V1.01

• Correspond to the AF assist light function by white LED light for auto flash unit [AF360FGZII] and [AF540FGZII]. (Don't own, will never own)
• Optimized contrast AF when using HD PENTAX-DA Limited series lenses. (Don't own, will never own)
• Improved stability for general performance.

'Improved stability for general performance' is a placebo. Anything which was a important or major change and/or upgrade would have had it's own line in the release notes.
The point to these particular firmware UGs are to support the new lenses, flashes and converter thus also encouraging sales of those acc's.
'Improved stability' implies that the camera is unstable, so far it is not.
I'll obviously update if it becomes necessary - atm, it is not. I've only had it a few days, so far everything is snappy and working well. With the exception of the noisier shutter the K-50 puts my K-7 to shame sadly

That's very unusual being able to go backwards with firmware updates, I won't be putting it to the test though! No issues after several weeks with 1.06.

There will be an internal list of bugs fixed, and another for the customers.

Companies need not announce errors to the world ... they can bundle up the engineers' fixes and roll them up into the next scheduled update.

People might be nervous about upgrading software unnecessarily, but IMHO they should always do firmware upgrades for hardware.

I agree but it can go wrong upgrading firmware, I lost a motherboard once by upgrading the BIOS.

Same. Bricking is a possibility, but the number one reason for it happening is the power cutting off/running out, and that's something we can influence. :-)
