It's been a while since I've used by 50-200 on my K30 body. Now that baseball season has started, I've dusted it off but am finding it awfully slow to focus. I did the firmware update just before the most recent one and I am pretty sure this is the first I've used the 50-200 since updating. Is the update the problem? Was it always slow and I just don't remember? What do you think???

I just tried my DA50-200WR on K-30(only updated to latest firmware yesterday) and couldn't find any difference in AF speed, which version of 50-200 do you have?

What you can do is turn the focus ring manually to check if the resistance has changed, sometimes when a lens was not used in a long time the lubricant in it becomes sticky therefor hard to focus, I took my Zeiss 85 1.4 out of my dry box for the first time in 6 months recently and the focus ring was definitely stiffer than I remembered, after focusing it a couple times it loosen up nicely.

What you can do to help it focus a little faster is to use the center point or use spot focus and center weight metering.

Hmmmm. Maybe this is it. I don't think I was using multi point focusing last time I used it. Thanks. I will switch for the next game and see how it goes

Thanks PP on the focus ring tip also. I will try that too.
