I'd suggest spot metering for shots like this.
In any case, if you shot RAW you should easily be able to bring out some detail in the dogs.
Even with the JPG you posted here, it's quite possible..
Small example:

agreed and thank you - that was just a quick, random shot of two black dogs in shadow.... still learning what the camera can and can't do (along with myself)...

definitely.....trying to learn good resizing for uploads to here, flickr, etc.....it seems 800 or 1080 seem to be ok.....they upload much quicker because they are much smaller than the original file and look ok......some of the originals look rather squished to me......learning as I go

I stick to 1920. Flickr will resize according to browser view.
You can choose from flickr the size [bbcode] to embed in forums via the 'Share this photo' button..

One big happy family:

1. Pentax 10-17.
2. Pentax K-3 with Sigma 18-35.
3. Pentax K-30 with sigma 17-50 f/2.8.
4. Pentax 18-135 WR.

Taken on a Pearl white K-50 with sigma 17-50 f/2.8 attached in the front.
