1. Be sure your shutter speed at least matches your focal length; i.e. 100mm focal length use 1/100" or faster.
2. Depending on the subject, use spot focusing, also focusing in Live View with "Focus Peaking" enabled can be helpful as well.
3. Use a tripod or other support when you can.
4. Stop down; you'll get the best performance from your lens if it is a little less than wide open. Also, a smaller aperture is more forgiving and gives a greater depth of field but beware of diffraction which sets in stating at around f11-f16 and can muddy the details in an image. Going along with that, learn your lens and where it excels and where it is weak and exploit those characteristics to your advantage. Contrary to what some will say, the 18-55mm kit lens is capable of producing some very nice images if you know how to use it.
5. Keep the iso as low as you can but you have to balance that with shutter speed and aperture. Very often something has to give so learn what compromises you can make and what just simply won't work.
6. Choose your subject. Flying birds and speeding automobiles are cool but they are vey difficult to capture without a ton of practice and skill.
7. Match your expectations to your equipment, skill and the shooting conditions.
8. Cut yourself some slack. Some days you'll have it and some days you just won't. Allow yourself to fail and learn from it.
9. Practice, Practice, Practice. There are numerous contests, games, challenges and social groups going on here on the forums and those provide an excellent opportunity to hone you skills and learn new techniques. My personal favorite is the monthly singles challenge but it certainly isn't the only one. The more you shoot the better you will become and getting feedback from others is an excellent way to learn new techniques, both technical and artistic.
10. Most of all, have fun.

After having the k50 for roughly a year, I've still yet to really tap into all that it can do. Here's a couple from this past weekend.

Dakight's tips are invaluable. Can't go wrong with those.

As a relative beginner and someone just learning too, here are some other practical comments/suggestions specifically for the K-50:

1) Switch to back button focus. After leaving half shutter press focus, I got better, more consistent results.

2) Use the zoom review feature. Most pictures previewed when fit to screen look okay. At 4x zoom, I find out if it's really a keeper or I should try again.

3) If you shoot with AUTO ISO, and you haven't already, adjust the range to get more desirable shutter speeds. Mine is at 100-6400. 3200 to 6400 still often looks pretty good. Even when the increased noise is noticeable, it is often an attractive sort of graininess.

The 18-135mm has been a pretty reliable lens for me in terms of focus. Maybe because it doesn't get as wide open as most of my other lenses. But it's definitely suited for the job as a walk around and one lens fits all type of situations. Great IQ for what it is and how much it costs, fast focusing, relatively compact, and well built. No complaints by me and if I ever start doubting it's capabilities, I look at the "Show us what it can do" thread and start thinking how I can improve myself. Best of luck!

Great Thanks to Dakight .. Those were really helpful.
1.And do you guys think , i can go for a 50mm 1.8 right now (just eager to try it for portraits) or still i need to learn a lot. This one ,
http://www.amazon.in/Pentax-K-Mount-50mm-Prime-Camera/dp/B00861DI4U/ref=sr_1...ds=pentax+50mm
2.And I got to know that , there are lot of Manual Lens available for k 50 , so which cheap lens is good for K 50
3.And does PK mount lens are suitable with k 50 (or do i need some adapter kind of thing)

Thanks once again guys. Will post some pics soon , so that I can know , what more i can do !!

the DA35mm f2.4 is a dynamite lens, too... and if you want to get into manuals, take a look at the Lens Review Database.... I have an SMC A 50mm f1.7 and an SMC M 50mm f4 Macro that both take spectacular pictures....

I also have manual lenses at 24, 28, 100, 135, 200, and 300mm, and a couple of manual zooms for giggles....

That is an awesome lens and also get it's mate, the DA 35, f2.4. Both are great lenses and incredible values. You'll love them both.

Looks good to me..... but narrow DoF is problematic for checking the sharpness of a lens. The front of the shelf and the front edge of the vessel look sharp, the rest of the image is out of focus and there's no way to tell how sharp it is.
