K30 strap goes to pieces

Original neck strap have started to crumble after 8 months use only. My camerabag is full of those tiny black particles coming from neck strap. They go everywhere...like inside camerabody, lens caps and lenses! I loose my mind soon.

Anybody else experiencing this?

I have not used the Pentax strap on any of my cameras.
Guess they are as cheap as I thought.

Yes. I had this on my K200-D. It is the rubberized felt lining of the strap only. And I suspect in my case it was due to sun-screen products chemically denaturing the rubberized lining. It let go after carrying it around my neck on several sunny hikes. I got quite a surprise with the black particles coming off all over me during the hike and it took a while to realize the cause.

To fix, I took a brass wire brush suitable for cleaning suede shoes and rubbed off the entire lining. All good now. Just not quite as smooth as before.

Hope this helps.

No talkin' mess!

I bought a ZX-L (film) body back in 2003 and a K-30 body in 2013. I have been using the straps that came with the bodies almost exclusively (I recently removed the strap on the K-30 to just use a wrist strap for a while, but that is temporary). Neither the 11-year old ZX-L strap nor the 1-year old K-30 strap is crumbling... HOWEVER, I know exactly what you're talking about, because I bought a used Pentax strap from KEH on Ebay that was visibly cracked and is now leaving dirty black crumbles all over everything, especially my SKIN, when I wear it around my neck. The "used" strap from KEH looks like it was kept in storage, doesn't look like it was actually "used", so I wonder if heat/temperature changes have degraded the materials. It doesn't make much sense because my ZX-L strap has been to hell and back and it is in great shape...

Unfortunate circumstances, I guess...

Never used the Pentax straps, too narrow. I used to use my old felt lined cloth straps from the film era in the 70's, never had that problem. My *ist DL still has one, My K20 & K30 now hang from a BlackRapid Strap, either the Yeti, or the wrist strap. Both very comfortable to use.

This is my favorite style of strap that I use on my cameras. Unobtrusive, low cost, durable, and just has a nice little rubber cushion contacting my neck that doesn't soak up sweat or wear out.

Try this company for replacement

I also use BlackRapid straps for long carries as it really takes the weight of my neck.

Depending of the situation and lenses to be used, I stick with a wrist strap or a BlackRapid attached to the tripod mount. Either way, easy to switch. Best of the wrist straps I've found is the basic Joby - plenty strong and no way you'll drop the camera.

I got my camera two days ago and glad that I read this post. Now, I'm keeping the Pentax strap in its original package and use my homemade strap with an eyebolt to the tripod socket.

I just bought a strap from the Couch company that makes camera and guitar straps from recycled automobile seatbelts and upholstery. Made in USA. I love it! https://www.couchguitarstraps.com/camera-straps.html. I got the "Seatbelt" strap in "mellow gold" to go with my new black and white K-30. Awesome! and affordable.
