4-way pad sub-menus?

I was reading the in-depth review of the K50 to get accustomed to it more (something I didnt do when I bought it months ago) and I saw the following mentioned:

"When outside of the menu, the 4-way pad (d-pad) gives you access to the ISO, white balance, drive mode, and flash sub-menus. There is no other way to access these sub-menus."

When I change the AutoFocus from being Auto to me having to select the focus points active area (with the red dots etc), I control the focus points with the 4-way pad, hence no longer having access to those 4 submenus mentioned?

Yes, except that by pressing the "OK" button, you can switch in an out of select mode. Thus, after selecting the desired AF point and pressing OK, the 4-way pad will go back to controlling the ISO, flash, etc. Press OK again and you can go back to AF point selection mode.

I believe you need to press and hold it for a few seconds.

Also a short press of the OK will default your focus point back to center when in focus select mode on the 4 way controller.

A longer press will beep to let you know it has changed mode.

I leave mine on focus points as iso etc are set once and then left alone. I also found out that if you press the o/k in live view you can alter the focus points.

Thanks everyone.

Indeed after "long-pressing" the OK button, the focus points remains where I put it and I now have access to the 4 menus.

Thanks.

You can customise the Raw/Fx button to instantly toggle the 'AF Active Area' on/off, i.e. take the place of a long OK button press.
