k30 firmware 1.06

I downloaded the 1.06 firmware upgrade several times today. Each time the camera recorded a 1.05 version as installed. Further down on the Ricoh list of k30 upgrades is the 1.05 firmware download. They are identical. The 1.05 upgrade is at both locations. No 1.06 firmware upgrade.

K30 v1.06 firmware

I just went to the suggested site and went through the firmware upgrade process again. Same results.

The k3v106.exe file contains the fwdc215b.bin file which will load into the camera as version 1.05. Perhaps Ricoh has pulled the v1.06 upgrade for some reason.

Are you sure you're doing this the right way? Putting the bin file on the card, and not in a folder on the card, but in the root directory? I had no problems upgrading to ver. 1.06. I'm just checking to make sure you're doing this correctly, and am not judging your intelligence.

I format a card in the camera, download the update file which is self extracting. I then copy the bin file to the blank card. When inserted in the camera, the upgrade routine says it is running properly. When finished, 1.05 is still in place.

You do know you have to run the routine yourself, that the camera doesn't automatically go into upgrade without your intervention, right? Instead of copying the file to the card's root directory, I move it from the harddrive where it's stored to the card. Did you try that?

FWIW, formating in camera still creates the DCIM folder, make sure your bin file doesn't get copied there.

Will try again. This time I will delete the DCIM folder from the card.

You don't need to delete the folder. Just make sure the bin file is moved outside the folder. Our cameras can't see the .bin file if it's in a folder.

Right click the .bin file, then drag it to the card while holding down your right clicked mouse button, select Move instead of copy, release mouse button.

fwdc215b.bin is the binary file name for the 1.06 update

Downloads & Literature - RICOH Imaging

Just follow the directions 100% and it should update to 1.06

k30 1.05 to 1.06 firmware

Many thanks to Photolady and Steve for your patience.

My download file on the PC hade several previous firmware downloads, including the1.05 bin file listed. I deleted everything related to k30 firmware and bin files on the PC. I then downloaded the k30v106.exe file and extracted the bin file. I then moved the bin file to the formatted SD card and checked the DCIM folder to ensure that it was empty.

The upgrade went smoothly after that and my k30 is now running v1.06. I think the key was to remove all previous firmware upgrade data from the PC and perform a "clean" download from the Ricoh website.

Thanks again.

When connecting to Ricoh-imaging from France, the 1.05 is the only firmware upgrade available for K30

The up-to-date1.06 firmware is available after switching from "europe" website to "global" Ricoh-imaging website (button up right in the browser).

I got this info in june from Pentax phone support in June, as the 1.05 didnt offer support for the most recent lenses, such as the HD DA limiteds primes.
I installed it and it works fine.
The 1.06 version can be installed in most languages.

Just started a thread about it with the corresponding keywords
