K-30 Burst Performance

I'd always thought there was something wrong with my K-30 because the high speed burst mode never comes close to 5 fps. I always use the viewfinder, so I was surprised to find out yesterday that the burst rate is much higher in live view and using otherwise identical settings. Is this just the nature of the beast, since the mirror comes down each shot when using the viewfinder? Is there a way to boost the performance when using the viewfinder?

Thanks,
Scott

Very interesting. It makes sense. Just look at the Samsung specs.

I'm not going to check mine now, but I did when I first bought it and it was over 5fps. Some settings can slow it down, lens correction for one, and obviously the shutter speed needs to be fast-ish.

Once setting considerably slows down burst performance: distortion correction. The other lens corrections and shadow/highlight corrections also introduce a small amount of lag. Keep these settings disabled when shooting bursts and you should get the maximum framerate

First run was 43 seconds about, comes out to 209 images, so just about 5FPS.

Thanks for all the feedback! I ran some further tests tonight and initially there was still a difference between live mode and the viewfinder. However, I tried an extended shoot in live mode, similar to JinDesu and when I switched back to the viewfinder mode the higher rate remained. While I can't explain it, I'm very happy to see the improved burst performance. Thanks again,

Scott
