Silly, but still fun...

Was doing a walkabout near the docks when this oil supply vessel came in. No tripod, but took this series trying to anchor the same points in the field each time and then made a movie using GIMP. Pentax SMC 28mm f2.8 FA. K-50. Developed with Silkpix 6, processed into an animation with GIMP.

Cool, very interesting. How many frames did you have to make this?

And this was done in GIMP? I did not know GIMP could do that.

Actually, the pilot was using the wind which was very strong from the East (right side of pics). There's a flag to the upper left that I had to crop out as I missed it on a couple of frames that would have shown that. Anyway pilot was using thrusters only to keep the boat aligned with the docks.

I have some experience with the same sort of procedure with my 27' sailboat!

The real pain, of course is when the wind is 180 degrees the other way and you are singlehanding in 25 knot winds. Been there, done that. Didn't even kill myself. Took three tries, though with frantic backing on the first 2.

It's only 14 frames. See the animation filter under Filters in GIMP. Any recent version. It's been around for at least a couple of years. One warning: It is easy to destroy all your work if you are not careful in the steps you go through in saving.

The question is, why didn't you just shoot an interval movie or regular movie with the K-50?

Interval movie would have been hard as hand holding I couldn't line up each shutter release as well on several background points. So I thought I'd see how doing it this way would work. A video would have been fine, but as I said basically was just fooling around.
