The K-30 Black frame possible FIX!

So far after one hour power OFF the turn ON camera works normally: NO BLACK FRAMES.

My K-30 firmware was; Ver: 1.06.

I have downloaded a new firmware Ver: 1.06 on a formatted SD card and reinstalled Ver: 1.06 following the Ricoh instructions.

Turned the camera ON and NO BLACK FRAMES!

Turned camera OFF for 15 minutes then turned ON - NO BLACK FRAMES.

Turned camera OFF again for 30 minutes then turned ON - NO BLACK FRAMES.

Turned camera OFF for an hour then turned camera ON - NO BLACK FRAMES.

It looks like the previously installed firmware corrupted while using the camera.

My next wait would be TWO hours 10:20 PM PST.

Before reinstalling Ver: 1.06 the black framed were after each camera OFF.

TRY IT.

Sorry, Leo - I have a K-30, and it doesn't have this problem.

Leo, I had my K50 do the same thing as your K30. I don't know if this is a widespread problem with the K50 but I bet the K30 and K50 are basically the same inside. My K50 only did it once and went away. It did make me nervous of taking only this camera out into the field though not knowing if and when it would rear its ugly head again. Anyone else who shoots with the k50 had this problem? Curious minds would like to know!

Never had this problem, about 5000 shutter clicks.

I have switch my failed K-30 to the manual aperture with AF lenses. I will avoid setting the aperture to A.

No more Black Frames.

The second Pentax for Aperture adjusted in the camera.

Yes, my K50 had the same issue and I sent it out for repair under warranty - mine was only 8 months from purchase and had low shutter count. The problem is aperture lever failure - the invoice says Diaphragm Control Block was replaced.

Yep, failing aperture motor. Did the same on mine.

Sorry, but any fix you manage to find will be temporary. It's a crappy component that needs to be replaced.
Ideally it fails early on, so you can catch it early on.

Affects the ability to set the lens to the correct aperture and that flows onto metering problems, which produces black or white frames.
You'll have no issues at all on a lens where you manually fix the aperture ring, as you're then not asking the camera to do any aperture setting itself.

Same problem here. Just brought the camera to official service repair, still waiting for a call. From what I read the repair would be at least 200usd. Is it worth? With so many people having the same problem with their k-30 and obvious engineering/manufacturing defect how is PENTAX/RICOH expecting to have satisfied customers???

Yeah... I have a brand new (7000 shots) Pentax but it has a defect that I have to pay for... but sure... i recommend to all my friends to buy Pentax...

Yep, that's the issue. If they'd all failed at once it would have demanded a stronger response, but they're happy to let it float over time out of warranty.
It's a pretty poor response now the failures are really ramping up.

Fine if you want to manually set the aperture yourself, on lenses with a manual aperture ring where this is still possible...

I was thinking about k-s2 too, But I spent about 500 euros two years ago to buy my k-30.
But I'm disappointed in Pentax and I'm also thinking about selling Pentax lenses and going to a mirrorless system, like Fuji or Olympus.
