As far as I am concerned, Canikons aren't bad at all BUT they are not Pentax. Thats the main cons.

This thread might be a feedback loop, but I'm totally on board.

That may have been the smartest thing you ever did. The K-50 is the real sleeper in photography. I have a K-3 and others, but that K-50 stays with me. The results blow me away.

Not long ago I decided to get a "real" camera again and shelve the little Canon P&S. Not a stranger to photography but has been some twenty years since I was serious about it. Was having a hard time deciding which system to go with. Canon or Nikon. Nikon or Canon. Pentax never entered my mind. Living in Oregon I wanted a weather sealed camera. WR Canons and Nikons were kind of pricey for me so one day just did a google search for "best deal on weather proof dslr." Up popped Pentax K-50. A bit more research on this camera convinced me it was just what I was looking for. Ordered one online and am SO happy I did. The build quality and added WR over similar priced canikons is amazing.

I have a K-30 and love the thing. These cameras pack tons of quality into the price. What are your future lens plans scwinn?

Well the lens system is amazing and legacy lenses are so inexpensive that I gave myself a $250 budget for now. Here is what I got:

- A Pentax 50mm 1.8 prime (everyone should have a nice prime...) About $100
- A used Tamron 18mm - 250mm f4.5 - f5.6 (I think..) About $75
- A used Pentax (FA) 80mm - 200mm f4.5 - f5.6 About $30
- A used Tokina 100mm - 300mm f5.6 - f6.3 about $35
- Finally A Pentax 35mm - 80mm cost ma $20

I do lots of nature photography hence the long zooms, and I do street photography with the kit lens. In the future I will add a wide zoom, and another wr lens perhaps the 50-200mm. All I know is there are so many legacy lenses to choose from. Some are good. Others not so good however I am having fun with my new kit. Thank-you Pentax!
