Funny you mention shooting the moon (sorry...). I'm not sure why, but superzooms sure make it easier to get nice shots. Must be down to the long reach and small sensor, hence easier for the camera to set auto exposure. But if done correctly, as shown above, better with the Pentax.

I had an SX50 and I agree the viewfinder was pretty bad compared to newer cameras; that's one area, even more so than sensors, where paying more for more recent kit seems to work out.

OTOH, I checked yesterday and you can get a refurb'd SX50 from Canon with full warranty for $150US. That's a lot of camera for that money.

Tripod is a must with the Pentax and quite a (physically) long lens which takes a bit to hold still. The bridge cameras have superior image stabilising and shorter physical length allows them to be hand-held.
The Panasonic shot zoomed in more, so the moon appeared bigger in the frame straight from the camera. But when you crop the images to a similar size, as above, the Panasonic smaller sensor makes the image look pixelated.
The Pentax I think is with the Tamron lens which isn't the best. I think you'd get slightly sharper results with the Pentax 55-300. These are just quick shots where I wanted to compare cameras. I'm not sure which image is preferable, but the Pentax one could certainly be improved on. The Panasonic is about as good as it gets.
