Survey with shutter count and aperture block or shutter failure.

I wonder if we could do a survey of K30 and K50 users with shutter count and if they have had aperture block or shutter failure. That way we can get an idea of what shutter count average we need to be concerned about these issues. Plus we could get an idea of the percentage of bodies that develop these issues. That will give us K30/K50 users an idea of when we may need to upgrade. I own 2 K30's and a K50. I will be happy to provide this information on my camera bodies. Adam I bet you can do this.

Post in this thread and/or take the survey here:

You can check your camera's shutter count here:

I think this thread would be a good vehicle for the survey. However, the long-term answer is simple: if you want a camera that will last you for years, it's probably a good idea to invest in flagship bodies that are nearing the end of their product cycle, and thus priced close(r) to the consumer bodies.

Adam,
Will you let us know the results of the survey? I am in the process of getting the money together to buy 2 K3 bodies. One for me and one for my son who is my second shooter when I shoot weddings. I went from an advanced enthusiast to a full time photographer in 2.5 years. So I had to be economical on the bodies to stay in my budget and hit my target date for leaving my day job. I opted for higher grade lenses and speed lights. I also had to buy backdrops.stands, studio lighting, speed light modifiers, strobe light modifiers, light meters and tons of other stuff. The k3 is on my wish list because it will be a serious upgrade over my current bodies, it is very durable and it has two card slots. The two card slots are great for weddings. Though I have never had a card failure, I don't want to be involved in a law suit because my sd card failed and I lost half of their photos.

I answered the survey. I'd love to see the results. Hopefully we can get 30 or so data points.

For those that don't know the age of their camera, the PF 'Check Shutter Count' utility also displays the manufacture date (which might be a more useful date to use than purchase date).

My K-30: Just over four years old, 8,014 actuations, no problems.

There is already a pretty good database for camera shutter life expectancy - populated with a lot of data, however it is dated due to the camera models the data is collected against (has K5II and K5IIS, but no K5, etc.).
