I had my K-50 converted to full spectrum. The manufacturers date and shutter count seems to have gone AWOL. Is this normal?

Camera PENTAX K-30 Manufature Date 2012:06:05 Shutter Count 19,222
Failed in feb 2015, had the camera repaired, problem recurred and it was repaired again (free of charge the second time) in August 2015. No issues since. Disappointing, but I have to say in all other respects the K-30 has been a superb camera.

I've completed the survey also.

I think this thread would be a good vehicle for the survey. However, the long-term answer is simple: if you want a camera that will last you for years, it's probably a good idea to invest in flagship bodies that are nearing the end of their product cycle, and thus priced close(r) to the consumer bodies.
Exactly! I just purchased the K-3 II for $700 US. Couldn't happier with the decision.

My K-30 dead around 45,000 shutter count.
In Japan, many k-30/50 heave users claim this problem and known as a common issue of PENTAX entry DSLRs.

I contacted RICOH whether this issue is fixed in newer models such like K-50.
Unfortunately, their answer was "we are not aware of that issue and can't say anything about improvement of aperture unit".
According to reports of other PENTAX users, the issue is not fixed.

Recently K-70 and electric control aperture system has announced.
It may be their solution.

Survey completed wrongly in the name of K30

Great idea thanks for organising!

Can those of us who have suffered a failure perhaps use this to get Pentax to respond with some responsibility? I 've failed to get them to acknowledge any problem here in the UK through Johnsons Photopia.

My aperture motor gave up literally days out of the warranty period I was most frustrated and disappointed with the failure of Pentax to acknowledge there is an issue. Johnsons wanted £170 + VAT to fix and later upon my complaint £140 + VAT.

At failure I had a shutter count of just over 42000 and my manufacture date is 21.06.12 (UK format)

Thanks again.

I added my response to the survey, but my K-30 hasn't logged a huge amount of action--it's mostly been a backup camera for me.

Thanks Adam. My K-30 is four years old and have had absolutely no problems. Love it to death.

Camera PENTAX K-30
Manufacture Date 2012:08:28
Shutter Count 33,550

Is mine the highest shutter count so far? the only issues I have are sometimes the UI freezes I think from overheating, and a bit erratic on very low power

I flay K-30 since November 2012, on my full satisfaction.
I think the best possible value for money machine. As long as it works, I do not want to change. Exposure to number about 18500 click.

K-30 aperture block/shutter failure

I took the survey.
Purchased K-30: July 2012
Aperture block failure: March 2015
Shutter count: 2,450 (Note: approximately 1,800 of those shots were taken on a trip abroad in October 2012, shortly after the camera's purchase)

Repair cost: Zero. My K-30 was out of warranty. The repair estimate was ~$200. I sold the K-30 for parts on ebay and used the proceeds to help purchase a new K-50 in October 2015 for $297. I sincerely hope that I do no regret that decision. Yes, I picked up the extended warranty.

Some food for thought... Let's say your K30 or K50 only lasted a measly 3,000 clicks. That many exposures would cost you at least $500 in film alone, and that's not even including the developing costs. A new K50 body not too long ago could be bought for less than $300. I'd say everyone with even a "premature failure" has actually already gotten their money's worth!

I had somewhere around 9k shots and had owned my k50 for roughly 16 months when I to send it in to get fixed. My warranty was up but it was covered by the extended warranty of my credit card.

Film cost is irrelevant. No one was choosing between a film camera and a k50/k30.

The only problem that I've encountered with my K30 concerns the Flash system... it flatly refuses to fire in AUTO mode... onboard flash or hotshot mounted, it won't fire. This has been, and is still an ongoing, unresolved issue... not to mention a royal pain in the @$$ at times.
