K50

My K50 is now just over two years old and with 2876 clicks has given no trouble at all. I use it with the kit lens and a Tamron 70/300 macro.

Ordered my K-30 on January 15, 2013. What a happy coincidence that the email for this survey came today and prompted me to check the info, as today is my K-30's four-year "birthday": it was manufactured on July 30, 2012!

Shutter count is 16,474 and it's performed wonderfully for me. The only "problems" I have had were related to the "four AA" battery adapters not being sturdy enough to maintain contact with all four batteries...I ordered a spare "regular" battery, everything has been great.

Aperture block failure

I own a k-50 and have absolutely no problems with it. Don't really know why this is such a hot topic. I have 30+ year old k1000 a 20 year old k1000 and a 10 year old zx30. I bought my k50 because Pentax makes very high quality products even on the lower to midrange end and I have experienced no failure of any kind on any of the bodies I own. If there is a failure I would attribute it to miss treatment by the user.

Go to this page and upload a jpg that hasn't been post-processed. I've definitely added this page to my bookmarks!

Camera PENTAX K-30
Manufature Date 2013:10:31
Shutter Count 1,850

Bought my K-30 in July 2014
Shutter failure at about 1.700
Since then tried different things to make it work. Nothing helps.

7. aug. brush up on data
I bought a batteryholder for AA-batt. and bought some Eneloop-batteries as well. Have read in this thread, that the K-30 might work, if D-LI109 was changed with the batteryholder.
And it works ;-)
At least almost: every time I turn on the K-30, it must accept one blank photo, but photo nr. two is taken normally.

I wonder if the lower Voltage (from the DLI109 7,83 V -> batteryholder 5,6 V ) has got anything to do with the aperture/shutter failure? Anyone who knows about that?

Hopefully my K-30 will work now and not crashing again.

Status so far on shutter count:
Camera PENTAX K-30
Shutter Count 2,210
Manufacture Date 2013:10:31

Camera PENTAX K-50
Manufacture Date 2013:10:01
Shutter Count 16,655

Purchased an OD green K-50 @ Costco April 2014.

Little over 2 years and ZERO problems.

I am currently looking at adding a new K-70 or maybe the K-1 to my tool bag, but that contemplation is for another thread.

K-50 failure.

My K-50 failed (software?) only a few months after I bought it new, and it was with Precision Camera for months. When I finally got it back, it worked fine for a few more months, but then the shutter failed. Pentax refused to repair it and stopped responding to emails. They also refused to extend my warranty to account for the time it was being repaired. I am completely disappointed with Pentax and will never buy Pentax again. 4 of my 5 WG cameras also failed or broke easily.

My K-30 failed. Manufactured 2012, shutter count at 7,500 at failure.

Picked up another one, already known to have failed, to investigate with.
2012 also, and has shot 11,000 but not entirely sure when it failed.

Honestly though, I do not believe there is any connection between shutter count and failure. It's a parts defect issue, so it's a case of does you camera have these parts installed or not. It's of little use to sit there and say my camera doesn't have this issue, because I'm not saying it's model specific. It's a parts issue, and if you haven't been affected, then you are lucky. For those who have been affected, Pentax has failed them.

There are no serial markings on the faulty parts, so only Pentax themselves will be able to track the dodgy batch, and identify which camera's had those parts installed. Pentax have stayed quiet, have not publicly acknowledged that a problem even exists.

My K30 was manufactured 6/17/12 and purchased shortly thereafter; shutter count 25963, no issues whatsoever. I've used it with a wide range of old and new Pentax and non-Pentax lenses, mostly old hand-me-downs.
