1/180 shutter speed K-50

How do you set 1/180 shutter speed on the k-50 in manual mode, mine skips it.

That's normal. The only time you can set 1/180s is if the flash is up. Otherwise, it's 1/160 or higher or lower.

Select 1/2 EV stops in the custom function menu, instead of 1/3 stops.

1/125 -> 1/180 -> 1/250
vs
1/125 -> 1/160 -> 1/200 -> 1/250

Adam's right, Dennis. I forgot about the ev stops. Mine is set on 1/3 because that's how it was on my manual film cameras and what I got used to using.

But you also go from 500>750 and ignores the 640. So.......I left mine on 1/3.

Thanks. I'm shooting with a sunpak ringflash module, so I thought it should show me 1/180. I'll check the EV stops. I don't think it matters much, 1/160 seems to work too.

The fastest flash shutter sync speed is 1/180 sec. Anything shutter speed faster will show the shutter in the image. Slower than 1/180 second will not catch the shutter either but the image will "catch" more ambient light.

A flash with Pentax "dedication" should set a shutter speed of 1/180 second but it also depends on the mode, f-stop setting and ambient light. An older auto or TTL dedicated flash should set 1/180 despite the ISO step setting. In manual mode when a Pentax dedicated flash is attached and powered on and charge the shutter speed will be limited to 1/180 but can be set lower.

I shoot in X mode with the Sunpak flash, which has a nikon module on it, and on my K-5 I was setting shutter at 1/180, but couldn't figure out why it would not show on the K-50. Forgot about the EV settings, got it right now.
