Shooting DNG my K-50 took a jpeg today (Resolved)

Anyone have this happen to them on the K-50? I do not shot jpeg nor do I shoot RAW+, so I'm wondering how this came about? It's not a problem per se, just a curiosity.

Is the jpeg a duplicate of a raw file, or is the raw missing and there is only a jpeg?

Some possibilities off the top of my head:
a) accidentally developed a raw file in-camera while viewing it
b) auto-mode or one of the scene modes
c) enabled a function that forces jpeg (like HDR, night HDR? Not sure if there are any others)
d) I don't know how you transfer the files to your computer and view them, but many raw softwares allow automatic conversion to jpeg and other functions
e) I don't have a K-50 so I don't know if it has a customized button option where it allows automatic conversion to jpeg. You can check the functions of the Fx and green and possibly other buttons

You can check the info in the jpeg to disqualify some of these possibilities (software used, shooting mode, scene mode)

I shoot manual only, never had my camera set to auto mode, nor scene modes, nor HDR either and nothing changed from shooting the other photos. This was the second to last shot and the shot before and after was DNG. I make no changes in camera when shooting a specific subject as I was today. A fly.

1. manual mode
2. manual focus
To answer Na Horuk, nothing in the list.

I don't view my photos in camera. I load photos to my harddrive and no editing software touches the photos until after the upload.

And it appears to be a duplicate of the RAW file. Both are there.

Both settings are the same including size of photo except for MBs. One the DNG is 13mb and the jpeg is 6.2mb, but that is to expected on the size difference from RAW to jpeg.

Also this is the second time it happened and the first time was the same settings except that time I was shooting AF.S.

RAW/Fx button? Steve
I have not set the RAW/Fx button to do anything. Is it setup to change a setting even if I don't set it to do anything? I could have accidentally hit that when I meant to hit the flash button, they're not that far away from each other.

I bet that's what I did. I read the manual after you mentioned that Steve. Guess I better start watching where my fingers are and what they are pressing from now on. Thanks Steve.

At least now I know....my K-50 is fine.

I did that one time with my K7. Took me a few minutes to figure out what I did.

With mine, I wouldn't have known until I got inside to upload to the computer. Steve's post made me look in the manual at what the RAW/Fx button does. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person to have done that.

Nope, you are not the first one. That is how I very quickly had the suggestion

Well, now that I know what that button does it will come in handy when I need to check shutter count.

I've done this before and wondered where the hell the .jpg came from too.
Now reading this I need to keep my clumsy fingers off the fx button.
