Questions About K-50 Warranty

Hi all!

So my brand new K-50 just came in the mail ($400 new on amazon... what a steal!). Excited as I am to pull her out of the box and use it, I'm a bit concerned about the warranty. There was no warranty card in the box, and there are no indications that it is a US market product. Mind you, this is coming from my research about cameras where a lot of info referred to Canikon systems and how you really should buy US market for the warranty and support. If you buy an import, Canon/Nikon USA won't even touch it. Did I get ripped off by Amazon? I bought directly from them, not a 3rd party seller. Or does Pentax not distinguish their cameras between international and US markets, and mine is still covered? I saw the warranty in the back of the manual, but I definitely want to be sure I received the correct product before I take it out and start playing with it. I can post pictures if necessary

Thanks in advance!

PS: I will definitely make an introduction post at some point, too. You can believe that I am itching like crazy to get this camera going, though!

welcome to PF!

interesting - both camera bodies I've purchased (K-50 and K-3) from B&H had "warranty" cards in the boxes with the cameras.

did you buy it from a vendor through Amazon or Amazon directly?

IIRC, the "warranty card" that usually comes in Pentax cameras explicitly says that it is not a warranty card. Pentax will warrant anything bought from one of their authorized resellers with a proof of purchase falling within the warranty period. If you got it form Amazon itself (rather than a reseller doing business through the Amazon marketplace), you should have no problem getting warranty service should you need it.
I made sure to buy it directly from Amazon. I just double checked the product page and it does indeed say "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com."
I guess I wasn't mindful enough when I read the warranty. To quote from pages 292-293:

"To prove the date of your purchase when required, please keep the receipt or bills covering the purchase of your equipment for at least a year."

So I guess I better print off that receipt! Thanks for the help everyone, I guess I just panicked a little bit. Also @pepperberry thank you for the welcome.

Since we're here, are there common third party warranties people purchase? I think I've seen the one offered on Adorama mentioned here before. I just looked it up--$18 seems pretty cheap for some peace of mind. Given some of the K-50's issues, I wouldn't mind two years of extra protection. Also interesting to note that the one offered through amazon looked like a complete scam judging by its reviews.

I bought from Amazon via a Canadian Dealer but USA warranty applied due to fufilled by Amazon. My warranty service on my K-50 was honored by Precision and the only info they required was my invoice from Amazon which I printed and sent with the camera.

I got the same deal on Amazon a few weeks ago. Ships and Sold by Amazon. In the specs it shows manufactures warranty and if you go to Product Information there is a link to the warranty PDF.

I saved copies of my receipt, Amazon listed warranty and copy of the product page showing that I purchased the camera and the purchase date.

BTW, I also bought the Pentax Extended Warranty from Tri-State Camera for $14.95 that extends the US warranty two additional years as long as it is purchased within 30 days of the camera purchase.

It is a great camera! Enjoy!
