Originally posted by dcshooter IIRC, the "warranty card" that usually comes in Pentax cameras explicitly says that it is not a warranty card. Pentax will warrant anything bought from one of their authorized resellers with a proof of purchase falling within the warranty period. If you got it form Amazon itself (rather than a reseller doing business through the Amazon marketplace), you should have no problem getting warranty service should you need it.
I made sure to buy it directly from Amazon. I just double checked
the product page and it does indeed say "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com."
I guess I wasn't mindful enough when I read the warranty. To quote from pages 292-293:
"To prove the date of your purchase when required, please keep the receipt or bills covering the purchase of your equipment for at least a year."
So I guess I better print off that receipt! Thanks for the help everyone, I guess I just panicked a little bit. Also @pepperberry thank you for the welcome.
Since we're here, are there common third party warranties people purchase? I think I've seen
the one offered on Adorama mentioned here before. I just looked it up--$18 seems pretty cheap for some peace of mind. Given some of the K-50's issues, I wouldn't mind two years of extra protection. Also interesting to note that the one offered through amazon looked like a complete scam judging by its reviews.
