K-30 mirror getting stuck, less than 1 year old

Less than a year ago,i asked a friend on mine buy me a Pentax K-30
from amazon co.uk.(cameramarket.co.uk) .
I chose Pentax because I still have the old manual lenses I can use.
However after 6 months I started experiencing this mirror problem.
The seller accepted to repair.
After one month, the camera was sent back to MALTA stating that nothing was wrong with the camera.
However, during the month stay at the seller,he did mention that they came
across the same problem.
I've used over the week-end and the same problem re-surfaced.

ANY HELP PLEASE?

THANK-YOU

Was this a grey market seller? You should have the camera serviced by Pentax, as this is a known issue.

I thought the aperture sticking was a known issue, not the 'mirror' getting stuck??

They are related, though not in a causal way.

However after 6 months I started experiencing this mirror problem.
I remember your original posts here, the difficulty forum members had addressing your problems over several months, and also some of the exasperated and/or rude comments you received. Just a few questions:
  • Did you ever purchase a lens designed to provide you with full functionality to use with your K-30 (Pentax-F, Pentax-FA, Pentax DA, or Pentax-D FA)?
  • If so, did the camera work properly with that lens?
  • How have you determined that mirror is not working properly?
If purchased from an authorized Pentax dealer on Amazon, the camera should still be under warranty with Ricoh/Pentax. If otherwise, you may still have remedy from Amazon. When you communicate with them, you must be prepared to give a detailed account of how it is not working. The three questions above are a start to helping you that direction.

Notice that I did not discuss using your camera with legacy (smc K and M) lenses with manual focus and stop-down metering. It was unclear at the time of your post 25 May post whether you had reasonable master of the camera with those lenses. If possible, don't frame your discussion with Ricoh/Pentax in terms of those lenses. Tell them how the mirror is not working. That might include:
  • not up when it is supposed to be up
  • not down when it is supposed to be down
  • somewhere in between when it supposed to be either up or down
  • shadow of the mirror edge in photos taken with the camera
  • shadow of the mirror edge in live view
  • optical viewfinder very blurry and/or dim
  • focus confirmation never works and/or AF using the viewfinder totally fails
Good luck.

Different camera with somewhat different symptoms (mirror-flop was common on the K-r and virtually absent on the K-30/K-50), but similar idea. The two share a common controller.

It is possible that one of your vintage lenses has a jammed aperture mechanism and is interfering with operation as in the video. To rule that out, remove the lens from the camera, set the aperture at its narrowest setting and flick the aperture actuator lever with your finger. The action should be snappy and without hesitation and there should be minimal resistance at all points in its throw. If such is not the case, there is a problem with your lens that may or may not be causing problems with the camera.

Please consider my previous post. It may be that there is a problem with the aperture/mirror controller on your camera. If so, it is not something that you can fix yourself and is something that should be handled by Ricoh/Pentax, Amazon, or the actual seller. Which one depends on the details of your purchase.

BTW...USING ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED TO BE SHOUTING ON MOST FORUMS

Steve

(...FWIW, the video was produced by a PF member. I first watched it when the K-r was current product and mirror flop was a concern with that camera...)
