I'm afraid I cannot find any similar reports. Could you please show me where this problem is discussed?

oh I knew there would be a problem with this lens..its not compatible on older K models, as it is a KAF4 mount..

Pentax Forums Review quoted:
"This is part of the new KAF4 mount designation, which debuts fully electronic aperture control. Since the lens has no stop-down lever, it can only be used by cameras that recognize it: the K-1, K-3 II, K-S2, K-S1 (only with the latest firmware) and of course the K-70 and all future bodies. "

we would have to find out if indeed a k50 with its latest firmware does actually work with a KAF4 lens..

The 55-300 PLM works! When it's retracted it does not disables the shutter, only switches to manual focus on the status screen. AF works with the original firmware too (including quick shift). I shoot some picture at F22 and wide open and the exposeure was the same. I also can see the blades closing. However there were some random shutter actuation, mainly after waiting a little and reviewing the images when I switched back it moved the mirror but, doesn't saved any images. The most common is when I took an image it rapidly fires two but only keeps one image. (I think the second one.) I only experienced it with the 55-300 PLM. With the DA 50 it does not did it. The 55-300 works in video mode too, I could control it the same way as the DA 50.
I've tested all buttons,
wheels,
AF mode selector,
the IR and wired remote,
AF assist lamp,
the led in the IR receiver,
built in flash,
lens control,
flash control with AF540 FGZ II,
sdhc card read/write,
sd card insertation sensor,
usb in MSC mode,
SR system in video and SR system by composition adjustment (up/down, left/right, rotation),
built in AF motor,
screwdrive, SDM and PLM focus (I don't have DC lens), Sigma HSM,
the mic in video,
the speaker,
the timer,
the electronic level
and of course the LCD display.
I also shoot a burst at continous high while buffer filled and then a few more. It looks ok, but with the 55-300PLM there are the random sutter actuations. I think I didn't lost any images. Did I missed something? Now I don't want to flash back the 1.06 firmware. I continue to use the camera.
I imported the images to Lightroom, it recognize the camera as a K-50, and it forgot my default settings too. (I was expecting this.) I verified it with exifTool and the exif looks fine, it says consitently K-50 as camera model. The serial number was also correct, it's the same as written on the bottom of my camera.
I tested with a cheap battery from e-bay. Random shutter actuations only happens with the PLM lens, everything else works as intented.

There are random shutter actuations with the brand new fully charged original pentax D-LI109 (from my KP) when I'am using the 55-300 PLM.

I won't revert to the K-30 firmware, because everything works fine as with the original firmware, plus I can use the 55-300 with this minor bug. I newer experianced random shutter actuation when the camera left alone. It always did it when I pressed the back button focus or the shutter button.

How about testing at all apertures, make a speed/aperture table and give us a report, if its possible..

Random shutter actuations looks independent from shutter speed/aperture.
I wont make a complete larger than 12x17 (=204) table. If I notice some faulty working I will riport it.

I'm more than happy to test the firmware. My friend has said they'll loan me the lens for a couple of weeks, any chance of the details on this hack to test for you?

Manual Lenses?

Has anyone tried using fully-manual (M42 and K-mount) lenses after installing this modification? I frequently use manual lenses, and would like to make sure I don't lose that capability before I try the update.

Thanks.

I have Pentax A 135, surely not fully-manual.
What checks do you need?

If you take the Pentax-A lens out of "A" mode and use it fully manually, with the new firmware does the "green button" stop-down metering work properly with the aperture ring at various f-stops?

Similarly, with an M42 lens in place, which will not make contact with the electrical contacts in the mount, does green-button mode work properly?

With the camera in Av mode with an M42 lens in place, does Av metering work properly at various f-stops?

If the camera works properly with M42 lenses when tested as above, does it do so accurately (without the need for exposure compensation like some older bodies require)?

Thanks.
