Called American Express and learned that with the card I have, they automatically extend the warranty for 1 more year. They said they might be able to cover the cost of repair but need to send out few documents. The claim processor will let me know if they are going to approve the repair or not.

Generally, you probably be covered with American Express, Im pretty certain you will recieve a credit refund due to the fact that Ricoh could not replace a discontinued camera (they cant warranty a end of line product)..Hope it comes out that way..

Seems like Ricoh US is addressing the issue:

If you wan to stay with Pentax, get one of the models designed to last, such as the K-3, K-3 II, K-1, maybe even the KP. Those models aren't known to have any common QC issues, thankfully.

BTW, if you got the 55-300mm PLM lens you could bypass the aperture issue entirely- but of course that's a very narrow field of view.
I would also include the K5 series to that list.

K-50 Repaired by Precision Camera

I thought some might like to see what was done to (hopefully) fix the exposure issues with my K-50. I've attached a copy of the repair ticket.

At any rate, hopefully it'll now be a good backup for my new K-3ii.

Interesting. Thanks for posting that. Did you have to pay that bill or is Pentax covering it?

More than two years at least.
My K-S2 is kaput after two years and 5K clicks.
Ricoh has its head stuck in the sand, or elsewhere, on this issue.
What went wrong with your K-S2?

Sorry Mark, just now saw this.
It has the classic aperture block issue, and I haven't messed with it since getting my KP.
Can't decide whether to sell it as-is or try the CA repair guy, self repair is out of the question for me.

No worries Bob. And there I thought it was only K-30's and K-50's that suffered from that issue!

Are there any picture comparison of the fixed part on this site or elsewhere? I meant the one fixed by Precision Camera.

Came back from vacation, Love the K3 so far, took lot of family pictures.

K50 after leaving it alone for almost a month still works fine with AA + adapter but with OEM battery even after couple of burst shots black picture doesn't go away. Put in the AA and take first shot, put back OEM and it keeps taking pics properly.

Called Pentax support, they want me to send in the camera to see what's wrong and then let me know the repair charges. Debating if I need to send it, don't want such a nice camera to collect dust and die eventually.
