K-30 internal backup battery - anyone found a reliable replacement?

When at AsahiPhoto collecting the K-70 after Peter fitted a "white" solenoid earlier this year, I mentioned that the K-30 was losing its date/time settings, thus meaning that the backup battery is shot.

He then said that this problem had arisen previously but he could not seem to find suitable and reliable replacements - so has anyone since found some that will work?

What does your "battery" look like? Do you have any information on it at all?

The K-30 (as do most of the K-mount DSLRs) uses a Seiko battery for the clock.

or

If you keep a charged main battery as much as possible the backup battery will last for many years. My K10D clock battery is still going strong.

Some people have had success reviving the dead batteries by repeated use but not in all cases.

It is as described in the tutorial:
Tutorial: Change Back-up Battery Pentax K-30, K-50, K-500 - PentaxForums.com

Reviving does work in rare cases if the internal MS414 is not completly drained.
One can try but has to change the settings for AUTO-POWER in the menu to off, so the body stays on all the time.
Then with a full Li-Ion one keeps it on for a few hours (when the Li-Ion goes too low it usually switches off anyway!)

If that worked, then it was good luck

Using the mS621FE is a good idea but take extra care to insulate as descibed in the tutorial because it is higher and would touch parts of the back
and discharge super quick and then exodus ahoy!

The MS621 was used in the K7/5/3 but in the K30 and others they use the MS414:

The MS621 is too high / thick and would drain immediately because it touches the metal part with its plus-side
and then is dead as dead can be (too low drainage, as for all Lithiums).

But if one insulates that back part, yes, then it actually is the better battery.

Oh wow another one we have to anticipate, what are the symptoms of a dying internal battery? My K50 was manufactured in 2014.

My PSP 3000 needs the same battery replacement too, wouldn't save date and time...

It doesn't matter when it was built, what matters is if the body was left without use and without the Li-Ion inside.
Symptoms are well known.
