Pentax k-50 - issue with Pentax 18-250 lens

I have a pentax k-50 with a zoom lens - 18-250 worked just fined till today.7-4 (Nice 4th of July present - Not)

It is stuck in the wide short distance postion and will not do any type of zooming. It took a picture fine but can no longer zoom in.

The lens is not in locked position but sure acts like it is.

Is it shop time or ?

Thanks,
Rose

I had a similar experience with the same lens...

turns out the AF gearing inside the lens was shot and would get hung up in roughly the same spot.. I could, however, use the lens manually..

I did replace the lens outright, as it could not be repaired...

It might be this easy fix. How to Restore Chrome Browser After Encountering "Bad Request-Request Too Long" Error on SharePoint Server

Edit I don't know why the link has that title but it works for me.

I was going to suggest jiggling the zoom lock and/or twisting the zoom ring while holding the lens in different orientations to try to shake loose the whatever-it-is in the helical. The problem in swanlefitte's link (a loose screw) could be it. I have the Tamron-badged version of the 18-250, and have never had a problem, but I have had issues with loose screws in other Tamron lenses of that era.

Pentax k-50 issue with Pentax 18-250

Thank you all for the ideas/suggestion.

One issue - the zoom is not in full zoom position so I am unable to see about getting to the screw.

Any other ideas on this possible solution?

Thanks again

Did you try cleaning the contacts on the camera and lens mounts? Worth a shot.

Could this be the dreaded "Pentax Lens 18-250 Lock jammed" with the lens stucked at 18mm?
In the affirmative, there is a simple fix that anyone can do with a small screwdriver IMHO. (Even me, I am a handy person and I repaired my DA18-250mm.) See the thread: Pentax Lens 18-250 Smc. Lock button jamed - Page 2 - PentaxForums.com. This thread should be a "Sticky" one in relation to the DA18-250mm IMHO.
Hope that this could help others....

Freaky.
Looking at the HTML, it appears the author copied the file for a previous posting and edited the body but didn't change the title tag.

I figured but hadn’t looked deeply into it. Thanks for confirming.
